Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac's

Just put on my second set of Duratracs last week. 67,000 miles on the first set and they still had some life, but taking a big trip and wanted some fresh treads.

Went to a different shop this time, and they still had issues balancing them. Went back the second time and they 'match balanced' the rim to the tire (nevermind that they should have done that the first time), now they are perfect. Looking forward to another 67,000 miles!

Thanks for the feedback, it's good to know that Duratracs could lasts that long. Just a couple of question - do you have C or E ? and what pressure do you normally have in your tires?

I asked why not 44lbs & and he rattles on about the tpms sensors are not set for that and it will cause problems. Needless to say I will be airing up to 44. No I just have to do a search on setting the tpms to accept 44lbs. So far very impressed, the road shimmy on grooved concrete is gone, they channel water very good and they look sharp.

I'm sure by now you've got it all figured out.

But for anyone else, I have E-loads and run them at 45psi without any problem regarding the TPMS sensors.
 
Getting my 265/70/17 C load DuraTrac's mounted and balanced early tomorrow.
Looking to have my TPMS reset to match new IDEAL PSI, so it functions as it should for my new tires.

So the question is...
The correct PSI for even tire ware, matching stock load ratings, and best performance is 44?

1. Imo, probably, but nothing to be concerned about with regular rotation as the center/shoulder effects are subtle and slow to appear within reasonable psi ranges.
2. Yes, if you mean load reserve.

I have E load, and run them at 44 PSI.
 
Is it a simple feat to have the OEM TPMS moved from stock wheels to new ones with these tires running at 45 PSI without causing any problems?

Or do the stock TPMS have to be recalibrated somehow?
 
I read one user here said he wasn't impressed with them in the snow. The reviews for snow use on tire rack seemed good so I ordered a set but I was hoping they'd be a great all around tire, and I did need something for heavy snow use in winter. Any other people here any experience with this?

I'm completely happy with Duratrac snow performance. Biggest snowstorm we had last winter was about 1 foot of snow and I had no problem driving through that. Did few skiing trips to Quebec and had no issues either.

I have the same question...

Just received GY Duratrac 285/70/17 and Black Rock wheels to mount them to. GY Tech stated 9 out of 10 times they can make the switch and replace stock with standard valve stem. Will the sensor need to be recalibrated to run higher PSI?

Not sure if you can recalibrate our OEM sensors sir. I have read that they are set to ~26 PSI. The only thing I have heard of was for the FJ Cruiser whom opt for the factory LT tires--I think they offer some kind of replacement TPMS(s) with a higher PSI. Not sure if those sensors are compatible with our 4runners though...
 
Needed some input on these... I have 24k on my Duratracs (e load) and they seem to not shed much mud when it gets sticky nor get much traction in mud. I am worried about two things; I'm taking a 2000 mile road trip next month where around 300 miles is on gravel roads and I am worried about taking them through another upcoming winter of snow. 24k seems way to soon to replace them as they ride great still. Any input? I really like the tire and would likely consider them again.
 
I wouldn't worry about them on gravel roads. I did think winter traction was reduced significantly as they wore down. As the tread blocks wear down you'll notice that you are losing a good portion of the siping.

I got mine yesterday installed and got a weird burning smell after I drive on the highway or anywhere actually. Is this normal?

By the passenger rear mostly? There's a few threads about it, not sure if anyone has pinned down what it is. Anytime ours pulls a hill and then you park, I always notice it.
 
I just put a set of these on my ride. They were used but still excellent tread and I got a smoking deal ok them. I had them mounted and balanced the other day at discount tire and the guy said he set them at 40psi.

They are 285/70/17 D load duratracs. I am running a limited with front and rear off-road bumpers. Winch. And rear swing outs with a spare.

Is 40psi a good pressure for the D loads? I get a little lost when it comes to pressures.

I always keep mine right in between 35-40, never had an issue
