got a leak and found the origin....

i've been lurking this forum for a year or two now. finally had something worth asking the community.

this photo was taken from the "flap".. between the wheel well and the tire on the driver side.. white thing is the oil filter. to me it looks like a wire going into it.. but I just don't know.

oil just decided it wanted to start leaking today.. so I decided to try and find out where. I'm no mechanic and take my rig to the toyota dealer when it needs servicing- bad part is toyota dealer is 80 miles away and i don't want to drive if it's like this.

any questions / help / advice that you can give is appreciated

Not sure what that is for sure off the top of my head, but it may be the oil temp sensor? But its a sensor none the less... It might be something as simple as needing to be tightened down. Does it look like thats the source of the oil for sure?

If I were take a guess it would be oil pressure sensor.

The fix should be as simple as tightening it or washer replacement.

I'm almost willing to bet 1/8 - 1/4 turn and you will be good.

that's what i'm finding as well.. oil pressure sensor or something along those lines. can't wait for this local place to tell me i threw a rod or something and they need six grand for a few engine.

the only casualty so far is me holding my cell phone flashlight and it getting squirted with 10w30

Yup. Oil pressure sensor. I may have one I can send you for cost of shipping but they're like $10 new if that.

Ha, a bit ironic - loose pressure sensor.

Oil pressure sensor. Mine was leaking as well - I think the shop charged me like 10 bucks plus parts to swap.
