Got my first ding on my vehicle

Came home and took the wife unit out to dinner. Walked back to the vehicle and was in shock to see my front bumper practically ripped off. Upon closer inspection, the damage started on the front fender by the front tire, progressed to the hood and practically ripped the entire front fender off!

This sucks, I hadn't even gotten a door ding and now I'm looking at thousands of dollars of damage.

But she did leave a note.

I just went through this with our extra car. My wife was t-boned by a high school girl and she dodged her insurance company's calls so we had to get a copy of the police report for them to assume liability. Hopefully, your luck is better, but I'd have to assume that if they left a note, it's likely they are going to do the right thing. If it turns out to be a front bumper replacement, might be a good chance to go aftermarket.

Sounds like an honest accident and they left a note - not sure what more one could want!

I agree with others, if you are interested in armor etc its a chance to make the best of it - if not, well it does suck but its just sheet metal.

I do this too but some douchers seek this out and park right next to you. I was sideswiped just the other day despite parking a quarter mile away from the nearest car. No note.

Pretty much. I parked far away at a Costco only to come back to find a 6” long white mark and dent on my back door thanks to a door ding from someone who decided to park next to me in an empty lot. I didn’t even have 200miles on the ODO. I waited and got them to admit to it then filed a claim against them. I ended up buffing out most of the scratches and pocketing the money but still.

Something similar happened to mine right after I had purchased it (less than 3 weeks old) - seems like the clips in that area are either weak or poorly placed, because it didn't seem like much contact for how far the bumper cover got pulled off.

Local shops wanted ~$1200-1500 for new bumper cover, paint, etc. I'm putting the insurance money into a steel bumper (have fun clipping that next time).

My favorite example of this is one winter when I went to the gym. I parked at the very end of the lot, in the last “available” spot. There was actually one more parking spot to the left of me, but there was a huge mound of snow where the plows had piled up the snow from the lot. There were at least 20 spots to the right of me. It was very cold so everyone was trying to park as close to the building as possible.

As I was walking back to my car, there was a lifted F-150 literally driving over this 6 foot high pile of snow in an attempt to park next to me! The truck pulled on top of the snow mound and was actually leaning to the right at about a 30 degree angle because of the way that the snow pile was sloped. The woman sitting in the passenger seat was just about to open her door, which would have swung down violently due to gravity alone. She would have crushed my driver’s side door. Luckily, I was able to get in my vehicle and give them a few choice words before the fat b**ch could get out. The truck looked like it was worth about $500 and the woman only had three teeth. I’m sure they would have been thrilled to dent my vehicle.

Mine happened at Costco as well. Unfortunately we were in there longer than expected and the car had parked and left before we made it out otherwise I would have waited as well.

Did you ask them why they chose to park next to you out of all the closer available spots? The fact they dinged your door tells me it was on purpose.

I've got a PDR guy in Nashville who is the best I've ever seen. He has been doing it since 88 when PDR first started to appear here in the US. He is pretty much a miracle worker, but getting the bumper cover ripped off like the OP is well beyond your typically parking lot ding.
