They used these guns a lot in the movie Battleship on the USS Sampson

Sweet! I had the pleasure of touring the USS Alabama, one of the Iowa-class battleships with the big 16" guns, and the SS Drumm, a WWII sub that docks next to it. While I don't like WHY they exist, I love checking out any military hardware (aircraft in particular)!

I would love to get on a Battleship!!
I have seen several Aircraft Carriers in port in NW Washington, but never been on one.

Here are a few of my old 35mm pics from my visit to the USS Alabama--yeah, it was a while ago (no digital camera back then). Unless something's changed, it's docked in Mobile, AL.

She is still there but not as pretty as she was in your pics. Still a beautiful ship, she is berthed inside a concrete wall now since she broke her mooring during Katrina.

They're doing lots of work to bring her back to her original glory though and we (the coast guard) periodically volunteer our workforce to help keep things clean around the memorial.
