Got yet another beef with Toyota..Clips!

So lately I've noticed that some of my panels have started to come loose such as the center radio bezel, A/C control panel, and the panel under the steering wheel. Now I just bought some new clips that hold them in place, and I'm wondering if that'll do the trick. I haven't gotten them yet and I just want to know what to expect.

This is pretty much the reason I can't run any subs. I'd like to see how that solution works out for you.

If you are referring to the usually yellow clips that secure the interior trim panels, new ones should do the trick. Though in all honesty I have rarely seen them pop off on their own, usually its because people try to force them off or remove the panels repeatedly which could potentionally weaken the plastic clips.

Also this is not a Toyota specific design, many new vehicles use this method to avoid using screws and screw caps and provide that seamless look.

I have 2 12s and I'm hoping this will be a fix. I have so many damn rattles its really starting to piss me off. I have the sunroof rattle, and a rattle from the rear that I can't find. I'm just reeeeaaaallly hoping the clips fix my problems up front. Toyota will be taking care of my sunroof rattle cause of the TSB. And the rear I'll have them check out too anyway.

The rear rattle has been covered by other members before IIRC...

Link me up, I've checked all the TSBs and I couldnt find it. Maybe one day I'll be content with this thing, until then I got a lot of fixing to do

Quick search under "rear door rattle" 4th gen section only, try rattle, tailgate for more. Hope it helps.

The Orange Clips are $2.99 and the blue ones are $1 so just one door panel can have $ 20 worth of one time use clips....

Well, I actually do have that problem.. The passenger side door has one loose. I don't know how to take it off without screwing anything up...

I spoke to a toyota body shop technician.

He said to use a screw driver and hammer to knock them out (break them). Not to try to salvage them because sometimes the Panel notch can break if you just pull on them, then you need a new piece of exterior cladding.

He recommended buying 100% new clips if you take off a piece of cladding to repair it.

That is what I did. I also bought some 3 M double sided auto tape and placed some at key contact points.

I now have a small corner coming up on another panel. I may try to just use tape first.

FYI my cladding was the source of a killer rattle & squeak. So glad to have
that gone.

Yeah see I'm too scared to go in and do that cause I dont wanna accidentally break the tab that holds it on. Probably have to go back to Toyota :/

I have to say I don't feel the same. I've taken the dash fully apart probably 15 times now and the center console pieces still lock in solidly. I have had some issues with the lower knee plate below the steering wheel, but that was my fault. Overall I think they are much better than previous generations, my 3rd Gen dash could not hold up like the 4th has. I constantly had problems with the center console in the 3rd not locking securely.

Just a side note regarding hard to find rattles...My passenger door had a dull sounding tap/rattle. Eventually I discovered it was actually the plastic body moulding on the outside skin of the door. The very bottom of it wraps around the bottom of the door, and that was causing the noise once I was driving fast enough. To test it out, I just slid some cardboard shims in, and the rattle went away. I also had the jack and tools rattle someone else mentioned. Just put some padding in there to keep it all snug.

A while back i had a very annoying rattle that sounded like it was coming from the cargo area in the cabin. After a couple of weeks of not being able to find the source and putting up with it I accidently fixed it. It turned out to be one of the screws that allows you to adjust the roof rack. It was a bit loose and i tightened it. It beats me as to why it sounded like it was coming from the interior but the rattle was definitely solved.

Does anyone know where to find the cladding at a decent price? I sideswiped an idiot (who couldn't decide which lane they wanted to be in) :bash:this morning and the cladding is scratched up...trying to avoid the insurance company..everything I found is around $300, which seems f'n ridiculous for a piece of plastic!!! Anyone have any experience trying to repaint the cladding after scratches? Thanks for the help!!

BTW: I have a 07 Sport Gray Mica (1E9 is the color i think)

Odd to hear this. I've had my dash apart about four times in the past 6 months and everything went back together nice and tight. I also just finished up deadening pretty much the whole interior and had EVERY panel off including the headliner. Everything went back on just as tight as it came off. I actually did buy additional clips before I broke it all down...thinking I'd break them..but only ended up using maybe 3 new ones.

I only have a slight rattle in the sunroof channel now...but only on washboard roads and that type of terrain. I also have a new very loud sub enclosure in the rear abd dont have any rattles to speak of...even took care of the lic plate so it wouldnt rattle

Hey hkollie1: Did you just get your clips from the dealership or did you find a better spot online? Also, do you happen to know the part numbers that worked? I found 99-8555-CP (Orange) and 99-8556-CP (Blue), but wanted to confirm and order before pulling the panels off.
