great stuff for sealing gaskets and surfaces

Hi all,

Just wanted to pass along some insight to you all.

I just cleaned my IAC the other day. I had heard some nightmarish stories about the rubber gasket. Well I took mine apart anyway, and, the gasket wasn't too bad. Just to make sure it would seal up ok, I used Hylomar. It's a vibrant blue sealant that never hardens and it doesn't harm the internals of your engine. Just put on a LIGHT coat on each of the mating surfaces, wait till it gets tacky and assemble. You can find it at Autozone. It ain't as cheap as some, but nothing compares to it. check it out at hylomarsealant.com.

I will have to see if I can find that stuff on my next trip to Vatozone, I hate using RTV

I used it on my engine when rebuilding it last year. I used it for the ML headgaskets, intake and plenum gaskets. For all other sealing surfaces I used The Right Stuff gasket maker.

Order you a couple cans online. Spray is much easier to use. When spreading by hand. it goes from liquid to tacky pretty quick and makes it harder to spread. Still great product either way.

Very good stuff if a specific sealer is not called for or at hand (such as Toy FIPG).

Motorcraft TA-31 is also a great silicone sealer for oil pans, etc.

I believe another user found that a used condom and candle wax worked pretty well

Best stuff I have ever used on an engine. Yes even on a Toyota.
