Standard notation of Toyota Chassis numbers:
GR N 215 -> GR refers to the 1GR-FE under the hood (the V6), N is Toyota talk for a 4Runner, 215 is the model run (aka generation, 4th gen).
I think the 2nd gen was 135 (I think???), but I know the 3rd gen was 185. So my old '96 truck was a VZN185, telling you it was a 5VZFE 3rd gen 4runner. A KZN185 would be the 1KZ diesel 3rd gen.
The Supra is an "A" chassis for example. So a MA60 was a 5M-GE MkII Supra. The MA70 was a 7M-GE MkIII... but an MA71 was the turbo model of that vintage.
More dear to our hearts is the J chassis, you've no doubt heard the term "FJ40". Landcruisers are all "J" codes. the 40 being the first gen, then 50/55, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 120, 200... all various configurations, years, and sizes. But any J80, regardless of what engine it has will share the same chassis with any other 80. But, the F in FJ40 is the F series engine, I think the most common was the 3F? Anyway, you may also see FZJ80 often if you surf MUD forums... so that's a 4.5L 1FZ-FE straight 6 in a 80 series cruiser.
