So after dealing with my 3rd Gound bee nest this year .... I was informed of a " new" way of eliminating them!

Road Flares!.....

This morning as i walked down the driveway while taking my 16 month old daughter for a walk I came across a sizable nest judging by the hole and number if bees entering and exiting.....and I got to talking to a friend about it......he suggested road flares. First I had heard of such a sollution.....but I figured it made sense....noxious gases, sucks out oxygen to feed flame, fire, ect......why not?.....entrance hole was about an 1" or so which almost matched the diameter of the flare......waited till after dark. Cold beer, road flare from '98 and a lantern..(electric).... Used a stick to clear some leaf litter around hole (aorx. 10")....struck flare and rammed it into the hole. As it burned up, I used the same stick to keep shoving it in every minute or so......when all was said and done flare was nothing but ashes, hole didn't look any differant other than the gray ash coating and not one bee emerged after. ....will confirm results in AM......... Operation Bee Flare looks to bee a success!......no pun intended

my dad used to use propane, and a estes rocket electric match. Just pushed a hose down and let propane run for a little while, He would put a LEL,UEL meter lead down with the ignitor and let the air fuel mixture settle before he punched it.

Gas and match are absolute standbys but I figured it try something new.....there were a couple bees hovering the hole today the first two times I inspected.....none entered, none left....future inspections later in the day resulted in no bees.....thumbs up on flares!

I had a nest of ground hornets just outside my front door. Way to close to the house to attempt fire. Sometimes the best solutions are the simplest.

Note: This works great for sealing up ground hog burrows also. For some reason they hate the stuff.

Be warned and very careful about this. I had a friend do this exact same thing with yellow jackets and they ended up finding a way into his house. Wasn't very pleasant coming home to yellow jackets flying around in your house. Best solution for ground bee, or anything the burrows into your house is starter fluid. It has great range, and it kills everything.

Whatever marketing genius that named this product was brilliant! I build a few volcanoes, sealed countless holes and crevices, used it for filler, made a sculpture and all kinds of things. I even squirted it on the ground just to watch it. This, WD40 and Duct Tape are some of the best inventions ever.

Pouring gas in the hole and NOT lighting it is just as effective at killing them as if you where to light the gas.

Albeit fire makes things better on most occasions.
