Gurus needed!!!help,i cannot get my runner started!!

During last weeks hurricane my 95 runner got real wet and died in me. I have been able to get it to turn over and even run for a few minutes, then she just quits like someone pulled the plug. I pulled codes yesterday that said VAF,igniter and ECT...started with VAF.This morning , nada. I noticed yesterday a hissing from the intake when the let was turned I have never heard before. I am at wits end,GURUS PLEASE HELP! It has the 3.0 engine and is now throwing one code (14) igniter. The fuel pump is NOT priming with the new VAF???WTH??

I would start pulling connections and using a water dispersing spray. You may have a terminal or two crossed because of water.

I would actually advise maybe doing something that is usually bad for engines to do, but let it sit. Preferably in a place that's dry like a garage and start a fire to dry it out. That's probably where i'd start. Also pulling parts apart and checking for water in area's that it shouldn't be like suggested above. Sorry to hear about your 4runner :/

I have pulled connections and dried everything and she has been sitting dry for a week. I ran codes yesterday and got 14,24,31. I replaced VAF and hooked everything back up and it is still showing igniter code. That is a costly part .The weird thing is the fuel pump does not prime unless I use a jumper in diagnostic box B1 to FP, shouldn't the fuel pump prime no matter what? Thanx for the replies, keep `em coming, spread the thread ! I know amongst great minds we can figure it out!

just curious, did you try unplugging the battery and leaving it undone for leave it undone for 30 mins and replug it?

Things I have done...

Yes I have unplugged battery, checked distributor, checked and cleaned connections, and pulled ,codes. I did notice a "hissing" sound coming from intake earlier while using the jumper to check if AFM was working. And the only code being thrown now is igniter. I was reading another thread earlier and am now leaning towards bad ECM, is there a way Rochelle the "brains"?

No I haven't yet, looking for info now. Would the igniter cause the fuel pump not to prime? Any other suggestions? Sorry I am doing this with my "not so smart phone" so it is autocorrect ing me to death!

Hissing? With a storm that bad could it have shook it enough for a loose hose to disconnect. Look for loose hoses.

What is the voltage of the battery when not running? When you start it, even for that minute that it stays on, what is the voltage of the battery, is the alternator charging. It should be more than battery only like 13-14 volts. Is the battery light on in the dash?

Did you just decide to pull codes or did you have a check engine light that made you decide to check. Just checking if those are new codes or codes not deleted before.

sniff around trying to see if you smell electrical burn/smoke smell.

One time i was rinsing my radiator, then I lost my mind and started to go to town under the hood and was not careful, and I hit the alternator a few times, well once too many and I saw it smoke up in front of me. I hadn't unplugged the battery. Alternator fried. The truck started up. But with every restart the battery kept draining. And the engine sounded bad. Maybe even a hiss sound. And it did stall if i didnt keep it reved up high.
