GX 460 rear seat removal

Has anyone removed the rear 3rd row seat for more storage space. The 4Runner has the GX460 beat on storage, but the GX has other signifacnt advantages. In any case, hase someone permanently removed it to allow for more storage.

I believe the GX460 rearmost seats fold flat into the floor, so you wouldn't remove them like you would with the GX470.

That is true. But if you never intend to use it, why waste the space to hide it. And it is heavy, thus wastes gas with the extra weight. I would like more cargo capacity.

I'm sorry I've never even seen inside a GX460 in person so I cant help you. However you purchased/are purchasing a v8 powered 4x4 SUV, that back seat isnt going to effect your fuel economy at all.

I removed mine.. the Gx460 third row is held on by latches. it fully removes out of the vehicle and you can re-install them when you want.

Mattbeeezy, can you tell me where the latches are or reference where it says you can move it in the documentation. A fried of mine has a 460, and the dealer told them that it could not be removed. It was posssible to remove them in the 470. In any case, if you can share that information, I suspect alot of folks would be interested.

The GX470 has the latches that hold in the 3rd row (like the 4th gen 4runner), and can be removed by the press of a button.

The GX460 has the 3rd row built into the floor, like the 5th gen 4runner, and I am pretty sure there is no easy way to remove them.

Maybe you are confusing the 470 and 460?

Anything is possible however keep this in mind. Once seats are removed there will be no easy alternative to having a finished look in that area. All trim pieces for 460 are made for the rear fold down seat functionality. (i.e. wall trim curves out to mate with floor panels higher than similar wall panels on 4runner without 3rd row) Only possible option would be to purchase interior trim panels from a 4runner however the is no guarantee on fit and colors are definitely not similar.
