GzTEP Build

Figured I'd start a build and picture thread for my 2016 TEP non KDSS . Had the vehicle delivered from Precision Toyota of Tuscon Az to my home in Oceanside Ca.

Stage 1 of the build
Icon 2.5 RR extended travel coilovers with CDC
Icon 2.5 RR rear shocks with CDC
Icon +2" rear coils (all the icon stuff will be ordered as soon as I talk with TAP)
Total Chaos bushing uca's
BFG KO2 285/70/17

Stage 2 of the build
Pelfreybilt Bolt on tapered kick out sliders
Method NV wheels 17x7.5 machined finish with black lug nuts
Rci Skids full front and gas tank in aluminum and bare

Pic of the day I got her home (3/16/16)

Some things I can point out on install

My 4Runner is non KDSS.

-The uca bolt comes out fairly easy, just loosen the brake mounts (I believe) on each side by the uca nuts. On the passenger side the head of the bolt needs a little clearance assistance of ac lines under the hood when you have it almost out. Driver comes right out. When installing the new uca a second set of hands to line up the washers helps a bunch.

-The icon passenger side Coilover resi has a really tight fit against the window washer fluid holder.had to remove the plastic shield bolt and haven't got it back in yet.

-When installing the longer rear coils, it was nice to have a bottle jack to place between axle and bumpstop to get the axle to droop further.

-The icon rear shock resis mount far back on the frame and its tight in there. I had to trim the driver side fender cover a couple inches. You also need a 21/64 drill bit to drill a hole on each side and use the self tapping bolt for mounting.

Talked with Mike today over at TAP and ordered My stage one except tires. About 3 weeks or so until parts arrival. Highly recommend TAP. Great pricing.

The whole crew at TotalAutomotiveLV is awesome. If you're buying Icon, searching anywhere else is just a waste of time.

What's your intent with the build? Bumpers and all the jazz, or just suspension?

Yeah I think eventually it will turn into a full build with bumpers. Goal is a all around camp/trail truck but to a limit. I know a lot of people say that you'll never finish a build but I disagree, if you come up with a solid plan and stick to it you can accomplish your goals without adding the fluff to just have extra fluff. I'm also friends with Mr Pelfrey here in SoCal having coming from a 2nd gen Tacoma and SoCal Tacomas.

Pic of my last build. I've already posted it on t4r but I'll throw it in here too. Full LT Tacoma I sold for my new 4Runner. Even though my Tacoma was full LT I mostly drove it as a camp/ trail truck and it did have the option to hammer down over some pretty rough terrain and shred the dez.

It's like you are in my head. Your truck is the same as mine and the suspension order is the same thing I want to do to mine. Subscribed to follow your build. Can't wait to see your progress and travels.

:thumb: we're twinsies lol. I feel the same. Excited for the suspension to come in. I wasn't a huge icon fan before but after all the research I did they always came out ahead with fox being a distant second.

I came to the same conclusions about the Icons. I just have to save up for the Icon set up. I have also considered the Billy 6112/5160 combo as well to save a bit of cash but am super worried that it won't be the kind of performance I want.

Cancelled the icon springs because I keep seeing recent installs sitting ass high 3+" and I only want 2". Ordered the saw's from toytec. Also total chaos uca's. Debating if I want to order the links soon or wait until the next stage.

Cha Ching :pimp:

JK!! I kid because I have been pricing lifts/level, shocks, etc. and I have serious sticker shock especially when the number goes up with installation, tax and alignment.
Subscribing to your thread so I can see your silver Trail lifted. :)

Uca's came in today so I started the install. Install went good but took some time to line up the washers and bolt. Shocks arrive tomorrow and I'll install. Rear springs probably Friday.

Finally got to take the truck out and also made its first payment. I took it out to the anza borrego desert / ocotillo wells / truck haven 4x4 park which are kind of close to each other.

Really happy with how the truck drove and performed. I really was able to get a good feel for it and got to use all of its options. The shocks felt really good. Nice and plush. Bfg's hooked well also. Look forward to many more years with the 4Runner. I'm glad I went with it as it really offers it all. From off-road capabilities to the luxury feel of the interior, on road manners and the options.

Pictured below is shell reef located in the ocotillo wells svra. This whole area was a sea bottom years ago. The reef is estimated to be 4 million years old and is made of oyster/shell fragments.
