I am trying to copy a 20 GB WD with WinXP to a 30 GB HD. Have tried WD LifeGuard, Ghost 12.0, and ImageXL. I have formatted the 30 Gb each time (slave). All these downloads have a problems and will not work. Any shareware out there that works?? Not sure if my problems might also be only 512 MB. This Intel tower was a network PC. P4 1.7/400, 512MB, soon to be my dual boot Ubuntu project machine. thanks guys

Hey Borgzman, thanks for the help again I think. Anyway, After loading Paragon, it's the same problem. OK, I want to make a bootable copy of my C: drive. Most of the programs so far only make a copy, missing what I need. I know I have done this with WD LifeGuard, but that failed this time. Ghost did not find my E: drive. going crazy here. My old Ghost program is for 95/98. so, any ideas?? thanks much, randy

OK, my problem turned out to be the drive listed as dynamic. Finally got it back to basic. tried WD LifeGuard--no luck, not bootable. tried HDClone, not bootable. Tried DiskManager YES!!boots great, nothing lost. Just formatted the old drive and will load Ubuntu soon. thanks for all the help! ran

Great!!
Actually, I thought its hopeless because, with XPs security updates, its hard to run a clone in the same network..sure latest service pack can detect that.
While its very easy in WinMe...
What I did last time in Xp, was a trick by using the setup CD and "fixmbr" - fix the master boot record. :) :)

ran, since you are into experimenting computer softwares/hardware installations, I recommend "Hiren's Boot CD".
I am out of style, and I only have that CD when troubleshooting Windows. The CD is bootable and has lots of utilities. You can troubleshoot bad windows installation and lots of disk management programs you can run while your OS is bad.

thanks much. will try to laod a few programs on this back up machine. Only P4 1.7/400 bus with 64MB AGP 4x card, not much of a game machine. Nice to have a backup again. Tossed an old K6-2/500 when I moved 2 yrs ago. So far, all the machines in the house are XP Pro. later days, ran

Just tried Hiren's Boot CD, lots of fun little things. Some do not open? Will run it on the backup and find out what's what on that. Like what drive is a MDO? thanks much. (got my second oil change on my Sport 4x4 yesterday)
