H2 tire carrier- would it work?

A lot of mods start with the salvaged parts from other vehicles. Not sure if it has been discussed before, but has anyone tried to mount an H2 rear tire carrier on their 3rd gen? Jeep ones I have seen look too bulky, but would probably work too. Any pictures?

i believe the problem is there is no where reinforced stock on the truck in which to attach anything to, the sheet metal is all to thin the bumper is plastic, chrome at best, and doesn't attach to the frame fully.

even getting a stock oem/jdm tire carrier is bit of a task that's why generally you see them attached to after market bumpers if anything.



that said, with enough time and money you can make anything work, and i'm not fully confident on my reply either, i just know when i was looking at getting one of the stock ones and bolting it up i read you had to reinforce the rear quarter panel to take the weight, which meant drilling and tapping at the least or welding a plate on to the inside of the truck as a hack job decided i didn't want to do that and walked away, it has been done before though, a few members have done it so it's no too hard, it was just more work then what it was worth to me personally,


i'd be interested in how this turns out if you can make it work, i would just say making the truck it's self strong enough to support the added weight at attachment is going to be the biggest hurdle.:cheers:

huge waste of time IMO. You could build a rear bumper with a tire carrier that is actually really functional In a weekend. and for probably $100 - $150. Given you use bushings instead of a spindle. You just need 2 pivot points and it will be sturdy
