Had new windshield installed - does this look right?

There is a gap between the seal and the body on the top and both sides that I don't remember being there with the previous windshield. Installer assured me that's the way it's supposed to be, but I'm thinking there should be a trim piece that extends out and lays on top of the body...
Am I wrong?

You can actually see where the old moulding was on the leading edge of the roof if you look at the second photo.

The windshield doesn't really have any particular position on the bottom edge. When it's installed, they need to push it upward until the gasket properly seals against the top edge. Then the glue sets, and it stays in place.

In your case, they let it sag downward some.

Thank you for posting. Gap in the 2nd pic looks like mine, but in the one that [MENTION=14772]shootmymime[/MENTION] posted, the gap isn't there. He says his is original, do you know if yours has been replaced?

I've got a buddy who has an '02, so I stopped by his house to check it out. His windshield was replaced by a PO, and it looks exactly like mine does. He's had it for 5 or 6 years, and says he has never had any leaks. Maybe the aftermarket ones are just designed a little different from OEM? I don't know, just worried about it leaking. Find out soon enough I guess.

Nope not right. I had mine replaced about two years ago and my installer used a correct trim piece that fills in the entire gap and slightly overlaps onto the body similar to [MENTION=14772]shootmymime[/MENTION] picture

It's just slightly tapered on the sides, and the trim is supposed to cover over and seal minor misalignments. When it sags down a little, the gap directly opens at the top, but only very slightly on the sides.

The trim isn't what keeps the water out, that's the glue that is applied all the way around. The trim is mostly just for looks, also to prevent whistling in the wind, I guess.

Yep, THAT is how it should look. I have a feeling the way yours is will collect dust, pine needles and water and probably start rusting.

As far as I know, this is my factory original glass. Yours definitely does look like it wasn't installed properly..

Old thread I found searching for something else.

To the OP: The installer simply used the incorrect molding. The glass looks to be in the correct position, just doesn't have the right molding attached to it.

Your windshield part # is FW2011 GGN and should have been wrapped with a BFL105 molding.

BTW, I am an auto glass installer.

I am in the process of getting my windshield replaced and was asked if it's bronze or clear. I did some research as well as searching this forum, but could not find our what my 4Runner is supposed to have. If there is anyone else that may know, please educate me. I have a 2000 Toyota 4Runner Limited 4x4

What they are referring to is the shading at the very top. Roughly 5" shaded area going across the whole top of the windshield. Your choice is either a Bronze top shade or Grey top shade. Unless your other windows are Bronze, I highly suggest you go with the Grey top shade.

Tell them to install NAGS Part# FW2011 GGN made either by PGW or Pilkington.

Oh I see. From what he was telling me, he said to the effect of a tint shade ??? As in, some sort of a tinted look to keep the inside of your vehicle cooler. Thank you so much for the quick reply and I will make sure he goes with either PGW or Pilkington.
