Hand Winch?

I heard those were good...even saw one demo'd on a 'tv car show' one time.

But they are 2-3x more expensive than the MORE power puller. If money was no object, I would get one of these instead if I didn't want a motorized winch.

More Power Puller Length

The More Power Puller looks like a reliable/affordable solution, but the cable length might be too much of a limitation for solo recoveries.

What about something like the Black Rat/Beaver Tuff-Pull hand winch?

Anyone know anything about those?

What is nice about a tirfor type like a black rat is that essentially you can have an endless length of cable but the unit is more expensive. So for it's cost I would buy an electric winch. And I think you can only use the metal cable, the gripping teeth would eat up the synthetic cable. And unlike an electric winch with metal cable, you need to stand next to the black rat winch to operate it. No remote control so you can get out or harms way should the cable snap.

I have also seen the black rat type of tirfor hand winch to stretch and hold down circus tents for cirque de soleil.

This thing is massive, heavy and strong and solid. For my more power puller, there is 30feet of synthetic cable on the drum reel, but doubled on a pulley would drop it to 15 feet. To overcome this distance limitation a strap or extension cable can be used. Then you have 15 or 30 feet of distance before you need to rig it up again. Hopefully enough to drag you out or hook up to another anchor point. But without anything at all you have 0 feet of pulling ability.
