Has anyone made their own skidplates and sliders?

I just installed my 2" lift that came with sway bar relocates. My sway bar now crashes down on my front skid plate a good amount so I took it off for now. I want to build a custom front skid plate to allow some extra room for the sway bar.

I also want to build some rock sliders that bolt to my frame.

The main reason I want to make my own is because I'm cheap and can't afford pre-built ones, and I have a few friends that weld that said they are willing to help weld.

Has anyone ever done either of these?

I'm planning to do this too. We have a CNC plasma table at work, and I can design them on Solidworks and hand them the .dxf and for ~$50 of steel, I can have a whole set of skidplates! My brother has made a couple of his already, and it sure beats spending $1k from some manufacturers! I wouldn't mind denting a set of $50-$100 aluminum skids on occasion either. Just not when they cost a fortune.

Sliders shouldn't be too difficult, I'm just not the best at bending tubing and making "pretty" welds.

Hdpe or uhmw plastics would be the way to go. Super strong and slick...

Uhmw is the same stuff cutting boards are made out of.

Uhmw is the same stuff cutting boards are made out of.

A bit expensive though, right? And at 1/2" thick, for it not to wear down really fast, it reduces your ground clearance vs steel.

A lot of fourwheelers and Razr type vehicles use this, as it slides over rocks very well and is somewhat lightweight.
