Hayden transmission cooler vs. B&M

Just wanted to know if this Hayden Automotive 678 would work the same as/better than a B&M 7068? They look almost identical with the Hayden have a larger core. I've seen conflicting posts on here regarding its use as a standalone bypass for the stock cooler.

I'd be running it standalone to eliminate the possibility of the pink milkshake as I'm at 207,000miles ... and saving $40 and getting a larger core seems like a win?

Any opinions?

I'm thinking about doing a trans cooler soon and being in college really makes the budget tight so I'd love to hear if anyone's got this

I don't have an opinion on the cooler other than my B&M 70264 cooler seems to work just fine. But, I have a video that might help you with the install. I chose to run mine in-series with the radiator cooler after doing a lot of research and basing my decision on how I use my rig.

I'd advise against bypassing the stock cooler. If you must cool down trans temps, then supplementing with a cooler is the way to go. I'd recommend a cooler that features a low-temperature bypass valve. This will allow your fluids to reach proper operating temperature, and prevent the cooler from over-cooling during the colder months.

If your main goal is to reduce the likelihood of pink milkshake, I'd highly recommend replacing your radiator with a brand new Denso or Champion radiator. I personally treat 3rd gen radiators as consumable items, and recommend replacement every 100k.

If, however, your primary goal is to reduce trans temps while towing heavy loads, then I'd recommend a new radiator and a smaller aux trans cooler. That being said, unless your loads are very heavy, these transmissions do very well with the factory radiator when driven properly.

I feel like I should state, my 4Runner is 2wd and never really tows anything and has never been off road... Not sure if that changes things.

I wouldn't use it as a stand alone cooler because it does have a way to compensate for cold weather. The gvrw of 25,000 pounds is good though.

I am using the TrueCool over the BM.

Have you replaced the radiator? They develop hairline cracks (besides the tranny cooler failure causing milkshake). :cowboy:

The B&M 70264 can compensate for cold weather "somewhat".

"The unit monitors resistance to flow by allowing a controlled amount of ATF to pass through a self-regulating orifice. Controlled by viscosity, thicker ATF is returned directly to lube through two bypass openings in the stacked plate core, while thinner ATF is directed through the core to cool as operating temperatures increase."

My first B&M didn't do that, so I changed over once it was explained to me. That's why most of us get that model.

Just ordered a new Radiator, ended up getting a Sunbelt... seems like people have had good luck with them and it was in the price range.

I'm sure you've included a new toyo thermostat (install w/jiggle valve at 6oclock) and a couple gallons of toyo undiluted Red coolant, right? Hoses/clamps look good?

Hadn't thought of the thermostat! Do you have the part number for that off hand? I found a bunch, but I want to make sure I'm picking up the right one.

And I was planning on picking up some Coolant and some ATF for sure!
