Headlight adjustment/aiming

Just wanted to share some of these pictures on headlight adjustment/aiming. Went the ghetto route and just snapped pics with my iPhone. I don't think TIS allows files to be saved. Anyway, thought it would be of help for those who want official Toyota documentation on how to properly adjust and aim your lights. Especially if you've upgraded to HID's or LED's. Apologies if the pics are not perfect or too grainy.

I think that is the same as this, which is what I used after my lift and HID install.

FWIW, I carefully adjusted mine per the specs after installing my HID bulbs. And like most other members who have done the HID upgrade, I had to re-adjust them down a *lot* to avoid blinding people and getting flashed every third vehicle.

HIDs put out lots of scatter, even with the projector housings, so the factory adjustments are not applicable.

Good info, I should probably go out and do it this way.

My prior method - set wife's car in driveway, mark X on garage door with chalk at center of spot beam.
Move in T4 and adjust to the same marks. Looks OK on the road at night in our low rent area with no street lights. Turn on fog lamps for additional fill in on the sides.

^^ What Ray said. In fact Steve, I have seen pics and lumen-meter readings of the OEM projector using an HID upgrade kit plus a high quality clear lens, and the results are outstanding. Very near, in fact, to my Lexus HID retrofit.

There is a hole in the cowl. Just look around above the headlight.

Yup threw me off the first go. Marred it up on one side screwing into it in the dark. Had to stick some light on it.

I aim my vehicle lights a bit different.
I park behind a passenger car, about 50 feet behind it.
I then adjust my headlight(s) to just below the cars windows.
I can see just fine. So can those in front of me both coming and going.

Similar for me. The low beam needs to tilt down and eventually hit the road, not just point horizontally towards infinity.
One point about aiming the beam, it takes a bunch of turns of the screwdriver. A couple of turns doesn’t do anything noticeable.
