Headlight Conversion

I recently bought the 01-02 Headlight for a 4runner to put in my 98 4runner. It seems like an easy and safe conversion but does anybody have any comments or suggestions regarding this convesion. Thankx

im looking at your icon and it looks like you have the JDM headlight kit. Im thinking about doing that one as its less expensive. Im just kicking myself for buying clear corners with out thinking about that first! :bash:

It was cheaper than the "clearer" headlights and by the time I sold my clear corners and headlights I broke even.

wow, i can definitely tell the differences. it has less 'cuts' on the newer one. but unfortunately, i don't have much money to convert mine. =)

Hello everyone. New to the forum and new to T4R's. Is there an improvement in night time visibility with the newer headlights in comparison to the older ones?

Yes, around a 15-20% improvment is what I noticed.

i don't have much money to convert mine. =)

yes you do, i was changing my tail lights and i was surprised that i bought smoked ones for $20 and my stock ones each sold for around $30. However i didnt sell them, just in case.

by the time I sold my clear corners and headlights I broke even.

^^ He's eactly right, once you go to the newer headlights theres really no need for the old ones anymore. The case with my tail lights was because they were modified and not stock for a newer year.

Yep. They are junk and the light pattern is horrible. Your best bet is to purchase some OEM (used is fine) 99-02 housings and run those. You can do a projector retrofit if you want to be fancy.

Those will be horrible. Why don't you just paint your lights yourself, at least then you will keep the factory light pattern. Check out my retrofit write to get an idea of how . its linked in the first page of my build thread.

Are the tail lights also interchangeable? Looks like I cracked a lens and would love to upgrade.

Edit: Looked up part numbers for aftermarket tail lights for 98 & 2002 T4Rs. Looks like they are interchangeable.

Jason's are from the factory the '99 upgrade. They are glass.
