headunit too deep for a 3rd gen?

I am looking at purchasing a Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX BUT on crutchfield it says it isn't compatible with a 3rd gen because the headunit depth is 7.195" and the 4runner only has 6.951" of space.

So i was wondering if i should pull the trigger on this and try to make it work? Wondering if anyone else has trimmed anything back to get another 1/4" in the dash?

Thanks, I would really like wireless apple carplay

the pictures shows its 6.5 in depth,
it should fit, just take your time routing the wires.

Thanks, while I hate going against crutchfield, it looks that 7.195 depth is including the USB cable that pertrudes out the back. I'll just get some USB right angle connectors on amazon and hopefully it will all work out. I'll report back to this thread after install... Thanks

try it with the included usb cables first, might be able to find some smaller ones.

Did you install the 4400NEX in your 3rd gen?
Was wondering how it worked for you. Found a good deal on a used 4400 but was wondering before I spent the money. Thanks

Sorry to be so late to reply here... Yes, it works without any issues. I DID install some 90 degree (one up one down) adapters for the USB ports but it seemed like the ones provided may have worked. I also did NOT install the GPS mount and soldered in a bypass so that I had full functionality while moving. Haven't had any issues running wireless google maps via Apple CarPlay. I also ran a backup cam through and overall, i am super pleased with everything! Brings my 2002 up to date with the latest and greatest

I am just waiting to get a Kenwood DDX 9705S installed in my 4Runner myself. After having a similar Pioneer deck installed in my former 2000 Land Cruiser, it really is amazing the difference it makes having CarPlay, navigation, and so forth.
Made the interior appear almost 20 years newer.
