Yeah I missed the fact that it was the valve itself that failed and not the hose but I was commenting on the fact that other hosing or belts may also be close to failing since rubber doesn't last forever.

I'm not sure why Toyota went with plastic on that part, since they also tend to break on 2nd gens as well.

As far as the heater control valve is concerned, this is a fairly typical failure. If you don't want to pay for an OEM replacement, most auto parts stores (Autozone, O'Reilly's, etc.) have these for $30-40.

well i boosted the earnings of Toyota at 85$ then, hopefully i got a better grade of plastic!
