heavy bumper question

Hope to get some answers here from you exsperiance off roaders.

I have a 3" leveling kit installed, and adding a shockworks bumper with a winch.
Still have stock coils installed and purchased a set of bilsteins adjustable struts and shocks. I know i shouldn't increase my height, but, just trying to keep my level height the same after installing the bumper.

What height pattern should I set the struts at to keep it level with that weight,
(240 lbs).

I can't really give you advice about what setting to set your adjustable struts at; however, I would highly recommend increasing your spring rate up front with stiffer springs. Your going to want to be able to support that extra weight durring rough terrain off-road. Its likely that you would basicly max out the adjustment of the height of the front struts to maintain the ride hight once the bumpers installed (but your talking level ground, put your runner on any incline descending and your going to be extremely nose heavy.)

You could raise them 1 notch (yielding ~0.85") to offset the heavy bumper. But in reality you should increase the spring rate instead so that the front end can handle the weight better.

This is what I suspected, nobody I tried to contact could help me on what coils to use that are heavyier duty to support this extra wieght. No real info on the web sites for this info either ( dealers that is).

All I need is stock hieght springs that are heavier to accomadate my lift already installed on a 08 runner sr5 model.


Any sugestions on model and brands.

The inexpensive route to take would be to order OME's (old man emu's)front shock and spring setup they have different options pending weight rating desire/need, and height desire. you can just peice out the front springs and shocks you don't "need" the whole kit but it would be practical to balance spring and shock rates front to rear to get an even ride.

Basically IMO if your adding armor and intending to use this for off-roading its time to improve the shocks and springs on all 4 corners and get rid of the spacer lift.

Couldn't agree more. Currently I have the same setup at the op including the Shrockworks (not including the winch). I'm adding a rear bumper with tire carrier and then upgrading my suspension all around to the heavy OME coils with new shocks.
