Help a noobie out

Hey just purchased a 2019 SR5 RWD. I know say all you want just couldn’t justify buying a 4WD as I never will really have the time. I wanted to begin the process of modding and wanted to start with the lift. I love the look of the 4Runner and am looking into 285’s and SCS wheels. I need a lift to do this and as a daily driver can’t justify buying a $1000+ suspension system to drive to work and on the highway. I obviously want to save a bit of coin as well for other things like a Gobi and such down the road and just because of the wife. You know happy wife happy life. Drop all your suggestions below any help is greatly appreciated.

1. Would prefer not to have to chop my car in all sorts of places to fit room for tires

2. I really like the look of the lifted 4Runner

That’s pretty much it. I want it to look bada** and I don’t think it can if it stays at stock height
 
If you are going to get SCS wheels and 285s, you will have to do some body modifications. Could be minor like mine (fender liner mod and a small bit of front bumper trimming) or it may need a body mount chop. Without aftermarket upper control arms probably both.

So if I were you and you want to go on the cheap, find some deals on TRD Pro wheels (made by the same company as SCS but has a lesser offset, wheels won't stick out as much so less likely to rub) and get those. I have seen some Black Friday topics of people getting those for about $600. Then put 275/70R17s on them and get this lift from Toytec.
 
If you want a cheap affordable lift that will last a long time I would suggest either Dobinsons or Old Man Emu. Both have been tested for a long time in Australia and work well if you are on a budget.

I personally have a Dobinson's lift and have been extremely happy with it and most who have one are.

My first lift was as follows and I loved it price and performance wise: Bilstein 5100s front and back. Stock springs. Adjust the front to your liking and add a spacer in the rear.

Me being nit-picky but why skimp on the suspension that is going to effect your vehicle dynamics and stability but still spend $1500+ on a roof rack......

If it's cosmetic only, check out the tire thread to see what size you can run without impinging then add spacer lifts if you want less than 2" or add Bilstein 5100s if you want more than 2".
 
Just get the rims and upsize the tires to 275s and be done with it. Maybe spacers.

You sound like you don't want to dump a bunch of money into it. If you went with 285s:
* You'd need a lift (you can go springs+shocks+struts or just do spacers but a 2" spacer will affect ride quality)
* Will need an alignment after the lift
* Since you're going to try and save money, you probably won't get aftermarket UCAs if you're not getting a BMC (body mount chop). If you get UCAs at a later time down the road, you'll be paying for another alignment.
* You might need a body mount chop (won't know until you try)... consider testing fitting the tires that you have on if someone is nice enough to let you test-fit their set.

So, if you get a BMC, you won't need UCAs unless you want your caster at a specific angle. With 285s and stock UCAs, you probably won't get more than 1degree of caster.

If you're looking for a neat look on a budget, I'd get the rims, 0.5" to 1" spacers, and 275 tires. Note: With 275s, you can get a meaty tire look without a lift. Add spacers for more looks if you want.

2 wheel drive aré plenty capable off road like getting to camping or fishing spots on forest roads. 5100 all around spc uca and pinch well mod.

Of course not, a spring and shock will be just find for lift, just not sure why you want to skimp on the foundation of your vehicle but overpay for a roof rack but to each his own :yo:

In response to OP, my reccomendation would be to drive it for a while and figure out what you would really like/need. For a quick lift to go to 285's, why not just get the wheelers T13 rear and T1 springs front, and 5100's. For a couple hundred you will have 1-2" or so of lift which may be enough to clear 285's.
