oh hell this may sound dumb but how do i tell what it is, i dont mess with transmissions and all but i have another dumb question, does it make a difference if its an automatic

The shift linkage will be on the side of the tranny and there will be a cable bolted to it. Its usally found on drivers side but I have a manual so cant go out and check. Easy fix might have to un bolt the cable.
Hope that helps

man yall are awesome thanks so much imma try to fix it tomorrow when i get off work i was really freaking out since this is my dd and my toy (92 yj) blew my rear pinion last week, anymore advice on this? like does it take some heavy hitting or just a normal hammer should do it

Since you've been mudding I'd clean it all off first, stick a sprinkler under the truck for a while. It bent with mud and the weight of the truck so I don't think a hammer will do it. You may have to have someone run through the gears inside while you watch underneath and see if you can tell what's what.

yeah as soon as i got home i put a sprinkler under it where my tranny is so it should be real clean im just hoping thats all it is

I doubt the shift linkage is bent, It is has a clevis on a pin. It is possible that the pin moved on the linkage.

Does the truck go into park? If it goes into park and parks then know adjustment is needed. If it still rolls while its in park then it needs to be adjusted.

If there is no adjustment needed then your tranny is fried.
