'06 4RNR 4wd have had it 6 months now, and was wondering if anybody out there has had this problem. I live in the mountains, and going uphill or downhill, around the curves (in 2wd, dry pavement with no weather issues) it randomly will make a beep beep, beep beep, beep beep with a loss of power to the front end along with a shimmying all lasting for about 15 seconds then it returns to normal. No warning lights come on, and the dealer can't pull up a code on it. They haven't been able to force it into this situation, and say it has to happen more frequently to have a warning light or code show.It might have something to do with traction control or VSC ? In the meantime, I'm driving and wondering when it will happen next...and praying !

Ask the dealer to perform a zero point calibration for your VSC system. It's likely that the VSC's zero-point is stored to something that's not a true zero point. When that happens, as you go around a corner, the car believes you are spinning out of control, as the stored values for the steering angle sensor and the yaw rate sensors are differing. It attempts to compensate for this perceived loss of control situation. The car is working perfectly; it's just that the values stored in memory are not correct for your alignment situation. This needs to be corrected, after which VSC will work properly. Once they do the zero-point calibration, you won't have to worry about this happening again. The only time VSC should intervene is in a loss of control situation. Did you have an alignment done recently?

My pleasure. Keep in mind though, balancing and alignment are different. My bet is that the car had a front-wheel alignment job done at some point (was there any history on the car?), and this changed the steering wheel position sensor. Even if it didn't, they should do a zero-point calibration. It should be free - it takes them 20 seconds to do it on the Toyota diagnostic scanner. If they give you trouble, tell them a professor of computer engineering and computer science sent you.
(Embedded systems are my bread and butter in my research lab.)
