Help me choose ICON or King shocks for my setup

I went from the Orginal Toytec BOSS coilovers with Bilstein rear shocks to stage 1 Icon Coilovers and shocks, to Icon Stage 5. Night and day.

I think I discussed it in my old build thread, but basically I lifted my 4Runner and could not wait to get offroad. Went to a place called Stampede Pass and took a corner going 25mph. Hit some potholes and nearly bounced off of the road. I was so disappointed.

Sold it and got the Icon Stage 1. Same road, same tire pressure, same everything but coilovers and shocks. I took the same corner going 45, total control.

Then, I started adding weight as I got more into expedition/overland type stuff and noticed I wasn't as comfortable as I was before on some roads that I was very familiar with. SO, I installed the Icon stage 5, with remote reservoirs, CDC valves, etc. The ability to adjust the compression dampening to match the load I was carrying made a drastic change in handling.

As I have said before though, I LOVED my Icon setup. That said, I wouldn't buy another one given my friends' experiences with recent purchases, and reviews of recent purchases that I have seen around the interwebs. Something seems to be lacking in the QC department over there as of late.

These days I wonder if I ever have to buy another truck I may just get a stock 4x4 TRD Taco and leave it as is. My buddy's stock 2017 4x4 Taco has pretty good height, locker and do 95% of the trails folks on this forum ever do. In fact it will be rolling with me to Utah in a few weeks.

Yep. My buddy's 2017 TRD offroad Tacoma is absolutely stock, and an absolute animal offroad. I blame it on his stock tires smoothing out all the mud on the trail, but that damn truck outperformed my modified GX on the first real trail run I took it on. I popped a bead, had to use recovery boards a few times, and bent a rear lower control arm. He sure didn't.

That's interesting to hear your comparison of the Boss coilovers and the Icons. I'm running the Boss coilovers up front, and while I don't have any complaints really I have been thinking about the idea of switching over to Kings. I like the idea that they are rebuildable, and I think the ride should be better, especially with a little speed offroad or even on rough gravel roads.

For the rear I'm running LC shocks. One of them is leaking I'm pretty sure and I'd like to switch to something different, but I also can't seem to find much that matches the lengths of the LC shocks and isn't insanely expensive. I don't want to spend a ridiculous amount of money on rear shocks either.

I've been thinking about replacing my OME 3" lift with either one of these set ups. Do they both adjust to 3" lift? Any quality improvements over the other from anyone who have them currently? Ride quality? Price difference?

Any help from any of you who have them would be appreciated.

Well price wise have you googled it?

For the front suspension .... when you look at the King shocks on their website or a seller you will see 2 or 2.5" of claimed lift not 3". And if you really want 2.5" lift then (assuming you are 4wd) I would suggest getting the 650 coils via special order. I have the 600 lb coils and by my estimate, after settling and raising them it is just about 2" lift.
.

Has anyone dealt with a specific vendor that they would recommend for king shocks? I need to get pricing on front and rear adjustables which I'll be using in combination with a BTF long travel kit

I believe TonyB66 got a great deal on his Kings.

Thanks. Btw I read BOMs for a living and just looking at the post it still wasn't clear to me that the vendor was Low Range Off-road. I read that line as: T-Shirt Low Range $0. . I thought like what does that even mean .... lol.

Ok so here is their link. You clearly got a better deal than I did.

---> Low Range Off Road: One Stop for Suzuki and Toyota Off Road Parts

.

It was much lower there, at that time, than anywhere else. Summit Racing was fairly close though. The price delta between the Kings and other options made it a compelling buy...

The rear Kings I got elsewhere, I think from Bilstein Lifts, but I'd have to check.

Hi guys.

I'm been contemplating on going with King shocks all around but been seeing both standard and extended travel giving only a 2.5" lift. I want to stay away from a body lift.

Are there any King setups that give a true 3" lift? And if so, would anyone mind to share item numbers, etc?

Thanks in advanced.
