HELP...Need new engine...re-conditioned, re-built, re-mfg???

The engine in my '86 is done. Anyone have advice on which way to go to replace it? I've read about re-conditioned, re-built, and re-manufactured and I'm thinking re-built would be best and cost efficient. I got a couple quotes from Rhino and Auto-Parts Fair. If anyone has gone through the process I would REALLY appreciate your advice.

I'm cheap. I just found a complete truck with a good engine for $400 and swapped it. Lots of spare parts that way too. I was going to rebuild the old block but the "new" one runs great. Why bother unless you have the funds to spare. I also parted out the doner truck and more than made my money back.

Those new engines at $4000 would be nice obviously but around here (Ontario Canada) you can geta rebuilt for around $1700. An engine builder down the road also quotedme $1700 to rebuild my own engine. Finding a running 22RE with a rusted out truck is the way to go.
