Help please! What is this?

Driving today and had water drip on my ankle. AC on. It's been raining off and on for a few days, I'm not sure if something is leaking or if it's AC condensation. It's never done this before. Looking under the steering wheel and this black plastic box is wet and dripping. I'm not too mechanically inclined, minus basics like oil, spark plugs, etc. Help a girl out! What is this box and why might it be wet?

Sounds like A/C condensation if you mean your vent system being wet. Simplest way is to locate your A/C drain, some rubber hose on the passenger side firewall appearing to go nowhere, and shoot just a super quick burst of compressed air. Be aware that if your whole vent system is full it will rain out a shit load of water so stand clear.

I've seen systems hold a gallon or 2

Good luck

The floor vents weren't on, just the upper. The vents weren't wet, just that box under the dash/steering wheel that's pictured.

Yea seem like your Blower box is possibly clogged underneath the vehicle or there is a leaking coming from somewhere else sense it has been Raining in TN for the last couple days... Or if it smells like Coolant it could be your heatercore

That "box" as you call it is A/C ducting. Its for the A/C vent to the left of the steering wheel as well as the crotch vent under the steering wheel.

Definitely puzzling that it it is "sweating" so much. I would just keep an eye on it to see if it occurs again and if it does then address it.

Its not a leaking heater core because it is clear condensation not red or green coolant

hlyon87, previous post is spot-on, that's your ducting for the HVAC. Just drove Chicago to Memphis and back last weekend for the holiday - it's so humid in TN that even with the recirc on, the vapor in the air condenses on to the ducts in the passenger cabin. What's your climate like? How long was the drive before it leaked? Think we were in the car 6 hours before it started to drip, and then it was only a little.

TL;DR: Water vapor is condensing on your ducting, don't worry about it.
