Help selling my 3rd Gen 2002 4Runner SR5 4WD

Hi everyone,

Well, I am at that stage of having to sell my son's 02 4Runner. It has been a wonderful Father/Son project, but he is off to college and no longer wants the vehicle. I have not posted anything yet in the classified forum and was curious on some of the major selling points that people want to see and hear about. I will be taking pictures this week of the 4Runner to show outside and inside and would love some feedback from the group so I can make this a quick sell.

I have started a list and would like to know what I am missing.

I have enjoyed this forum very much and have learned a lot!

Vehicle is in wonderful condition.
All routine maintenance has been done, including timing belt and water pump.
Vehicle has seen “zero” off-roading!
Vehicle has had “zero” accidents!
Vehicle runs strong!
I have title in hand and ready to sell!
Vehicle was purchased brand new by my Dad and handed down to me and then handed down to my son.

Any differential lockers?
 
Hi there MACT4R... the answer is "no" on the differential lockers. Had to call the mechanic who has taken care of the truck LOL

I just have to say, there's too many vehicles like this. It's a real shame, these 4Runners are an absolute blast to drive off-road. The small size and 4WD system is amazing, even with no locker. My stock-height 4Runner with highway tires has seen more off-roading than some "off-road" built up SUVs and Trucks.
 
Man, I would think to hold on to it for just a few months, and he'll be wanting it back. Is it that he wants no car, or just a different car? I cant imagine having gone to college with no car...

I think most people will be looking for Rust, but for the most part, here in colorado, that's a 6,500-7,000 runner all day.

Thanks Shane for the support! I was just trying to get some "help" on what people like to see on a 4Runner for sale. As I said, I have never sold one before and thought a general post would be okay. Was not trying to rub people the wrong way! Oh well....
 
Thanks Collkid! Pictures will definitely be coming as I plan on taking photos this weekend and posting the 4Runner for sale next week. I agree that pictures are worth a 1000 words! I just wanted to make sure the "description" was sufficient for people looking to buy the 4Runner.

I see your point, however, as we all know, there are a lot of great examples in the classifieds. Furthermore, I can understand the help here, but as we all know, this could quickly turn into a sale thread. There is an information thread in the for sale, and I'm not trying to be mean to anyone getting information. I'm just saying it could quickly get out of control.
 
This thing will sell fast, I can guarantee that. The market for clean runners right now is huge in your area. Throw it on craigslist and it will be gone.

Side note: your son is stupid. I'd have killed to be given that truck for college. :rockthrow:
 
Thanks everyone for the input and recommendations! By no means am I trying to "sell the vehicle" here and definitely do not want to break any rules of the forum or have things get out of hand. Like many of you have commented, suggested, and encouraged, I just want to be sure to get all the vehicle information out there when I go to post it on the "for sale section" next week. I will definitely take pictures of all areas so that people have a good look of the vehicle, to include the underside!

For those wondering why I am not keeping this vehicle: This was a project vehicle for my son and I. He loved the idea of a lifted truck, bigger tires, new stereo system, etc. My son used it his junior and senior year in high school and now he is off to college. My wife and I made the decision that he cant have a vehicle his first year. We offered the vehicle to our 16 year old son who just got his license, but he chose my 2005 4Runner instead of the lifted 02. Since there is no reason to keep the vehicle, I thought it was time to sell it to someone who can enjoy it.

I would want to know how long ago/at what mileage the timing belt and water pump were done.

OMG this. I had a nice reliable car for college, but something I could take camping, off roading, paintballing, [everything else fun and outdoors], would have meant a good deal more nekkid coed time.

Mmmm....college...those were the days.
