Helping Friend: "Lurching" Issue S/C Auto SR5

I and mainly my buddy will appreciate your help on this. I haven't seen the car yet, but he wanted me to inquire with the great minds on this website as to an issue he's having with his 3rd Gen.

I am having an issue where I experience a rough running, lurching sort of feeling from the engine right at about 2k rpm on the highway at 70mph.
Occasionally in extremely hot temps or when she sits in direct sunlight in the summer you can feel the rough shaking and lurching/hesitations at idle and if you don’t give it gas upon ignition it will die.

This started happening close to the time I did the tundra brake upgrade – a much needed mod due to the nasty vibrations from the warped stock rotors.
Could these be related? Has anyone else experienced this hesitation on the highway?

The VSC TRAC and CHECK ENGINE lights are on. Was throwing a code for EVAP leak and Knock Sensor bay two.
I had the knock sensor replaced with OEM Toyota parts and the code is still there. I installed new bolts on the exhaust manifold and the Evap code went away.

Any ideas?

Well, you have a vacuum leak in the EVAP system and a bad knock sensor. The EVAP leak will rob power and if large enough case it to stall like mentioned, and the knock sensor code will kill all power by retarding timing, especially at increased engine loads like on the freeway.

Get those two issues fixed and it'll work just fine. When you change the knock sensor only use OEM parts and replace the pigtail as well, the heat damages the wiring over time. You'll also need to know the specific EVAP code to pinpoint what part is not functioning correctly (usually the charcoal canister).
