HID's with Halogen reflectors

I did something stupid and purchased HID headlights before doing enough research about them....

I bought them with the intentions of just pluging them into the existing reflector housing. They do produce very good light but when I pull up to the garage, the notorious glare is visible just above eye level.

I have no desire to do a retro b/c I don't want to cut up the light housing in fear that it would not come out as planned and cost of the projectors, etc. I have spent enough on headlights!

What are some opinions about just keeping the HID's in the reflectors? I don't think the glare is bad enough to disturb anyone but I just want see what other people here think.

This is not for my 06 4Runner (I am happy with the output on these). It is on the 03 Accord...

About the only thing you can do is aim them lower.

There isn't really anything else you can do besides a retro of a HID projector into the housing.

It will be bright and not focused, but shouldn't be to bad because 2003 Accord has clear lens and no diffuser patern (glass shaped to create prism effect in order to maximize visual output). Put it in, reaim headlights and it will look just fine.

www.retro-solutions.com great place to get hids with lifetime warranty and support if u have trouble, i dont think ull get glare if u use there kit, im using a 55watt digital kit in my 96 base with the bixenon, its bright no glare, and good cutoff.

This is a very bad idea....


No offense but you wasted your money if you are not foig a retro...


halogen reflectors were not made to handle this much light output. While yes, you can do what others advise and leave them in there just reiam the headlights downwards, you are doing the stupidest thing to yourself....


Think about it.... a light is supposed to be aimed to point down the road for you to see, if you start aiming the thing downward not only are you limiting your light distance (basically your 'glare' is the only thing you are using to see at night) but you are also lighting up the road directly in front of you which limits your sight distance because your eyes are adjusting to the brightness of the road directly in front of you instead out in the road where it should be...


I don't recommend even putting a kit in a halogen projector but the result is MUCh better and is doable compared to a halogen reflector housing...


Overall it's a lose/lose situation for both you and other drivers if you install these.... but to each their own (i recommend doing your own research about how the human eye adjusts to light at night and about installing HID kit in reflector housing and do what you think is best for you, good luck

Yep, I think I will just keep them in the garage on the shelf for the time being.

Why not just try it. Install is reversible. Take couple hours put HID's in. Try them, if they suck, take them out, put stock bulbs back in and call time spent - recreation. Even if you "wasted your money" you'll learn something by installing and test running. When people told me that HKS turbo will not work on 2.0Si Prelude, I told them go to hell and installed it (with some mods and headache). Guess what? It worked just fine, but if it wouldn't I'd still learn something by trying.

I did install them once. It is a piece of cake and the only real pain was hiding all the wire that you didn't need. They lit up the road very well but some light scattered. They were much brighter than the stock 51 watt halogen's.

I kept them in for about two weeks but after screwing around with the alignment for a while and worrying that they were too bright, I just removed them, which took all of 10 minutes.
