Completely random, so the off topic forum is perfect for this, but here's a realization that I've had recently.

When i joined this forum almost a year ago, I was in awe of the high post count members.
I thought,
"Wow, these people must be extremely smart! Look; that person has been a member for only 3 years, and yet already has over 4000 posts! He sure knows his 4runners! He must be a pillar of the community! Everyone must come to him for advice!"

And then I realized that they just spend all day hanging out in the Off Topic forum participating in flame wars.
:hiding:

Haha I actually realized this because my post count has gone up by 40 since I discovered the Off Topic forum a little over a week ago.

My build is complete. I'm sure if I have a technical issue I'll wander back to 3rd gen to research it, otherwise I'm just here to mess with Thai. (Please get this is a joke people.)

ndcent liberalism alone accounts for 15,000 posts from me. :fencing:

yep.
I have suggested that OT posts do not count towards a post count, but its gotten nowhere.

Yeah ... I'd say at least 50% of all my comments have been in Off Topic.

I just crossed the 10,000 mark this week. I guess I should thank Donald Trump for giving me several topics to argue about.

High post count just means someone who talks a lot, some times far too much.

But why does post count matter to you guys? Is there a reward or something that no one told me about?!!! I will post-whore even more! :toilet3:

just like he talked about in his OP, sometimes people refer to post counts, as sign of knowledge. and typically will then give more weight to the posts made by those members.. but if 90% of their posts are BS content, or trolling, then they really don't know shit.

Honestly, I 100% agree that post count shouldn't count in off topic and nor should the likes because it makes people think a senior member is a trustworthy source but they just post "lol yeah" or they screw around in threads like these lol. I am on a credit card board and the "smorgasbord" posts don't count as not to alter people's "status" for not contributing to anything.

There also are some old farts that don't have anything better with their time than browse & post on forums. Obviously I'm not speaking from experience.

:dancin:

Post count is meaningless, figuring out who to listen to and who to ignore is all that really matters when looking for useful information.

True, but being new (as I am) I haven't quite learned who to ignore or listen to yet, unfortunately. On topics I am unfamiliar with, I see someone say something that sounds decently reasonable and then someone immediately contradict them saying none of that is true or it's just speculation. Sure, that's anywhere you go and it takes time to really learn on who is smart in certain aspects. That's why when I say something and I am not 100% certain I will gladly admit it so you can take it with a grain of salt.

I trust most of the high post count members when it comes to 4Runners, its just the ideological stuff that people disagree on.
