Hilux import, advise needed.

Hi everybody!
Thirst of all I want to apologize about my English, it is so far from being perfect.
I'm before starting process of immigrating to Canada, and got some dilemma about my 5th gen pick up.
It is 1997 2.4 diesel (no turbo), double cab, with about 390K.
It got 2" lift, solid front axle with LOKKA inside add original electric locker in the rear. Fitting 31" mud Maxxiss tiers. Got 4.7 low gears in transfer.
The truck is in very good mechanical condition and got no rust at all.

I believe it could be sold for about 13-15CAD in my country.

Now the question! ))), What do you think guys, is it reasonable to bring the truck to Canada, from the perspective of money?

Welcome to the forum.

Nice truck. I'm sure you don't want to part with such a capable build, especially a small diesel which is extremely rare here.

Where are you importing from and do you have any freight cost quotes? Then you also have to worry about possible regulatory mandated modifications in order to register it but I'm not sure what would apply to an older vehicle.

Gut feeling is that would would be an awesome truck to keep but unfortunately expensive to import.

Maybe there are others on here that will chime in that have actual import experience, like some (ex)military guys that get moved around.

What are the limitations in Canada (Ontario)? In my country the truck is almost legal (authorities don't really like offroaders). Is there any problems with bumpers, lift, tiers, emission?
 
I imported a 98 4runner a little over a year ago and had very little issues.
I will try to explain some of the details.

This is if you were to drive it across like I did. First you have to fax, or email your title to the US Customs office at the place of crossing 72 hours prior to your arrival at the border. Then you export it at the US side of the border, and import it once you get to the Canadian side.
Now your truck is old enough that you wont need a federal inspection.( 13 years or older) I imported into Alberta so I had to get an out of province inspection for Alberta. Then it was simply going to the registry office and registering it in my name.
I had some issues at my place of inspection because I had a leaky rear axle seal. But as far as having an issue because of lift and things like that was no problem. I don't know how Ontario is, but this is how things went for me. It was all fairly simple for me, other than the axle seal!

Importing between Canada and the US is easier than importing from another country because the CMVSS almost mimics the FMVSS with just a few exceptions and why the RIV process is "somewhat" easier. A quick read of the link I provided shows the OP "may" be OK because his truck is more than 15 years old but it is modified (I'm thinking bumper height rules). I would proceed with caution aside from the $$$ involved. He has to comply with both Transport Canada and CBSA rules. The OP is freighting it in, not just driving up to the border. He needs to make some calls or write some emails before sticking it into a container.

I would agree with you. I just wanted to share my experience, because that is how I figured out how to do mine. By reading a lot of different material and taking what I needed from there. I was also told by CBSA that I wouldn't need the federal inspection because of its age being greater than 13(by only 2 months). I also know Ontario is a lot pickier about things than Alberta.
 
No, I was told at the border crossing station that all I needed was to get the out of province inspection. I was also told I didn't need to deal with RIV because of the age of my vehicle.
