update
well i guess good news, although it hasn't completely played out yet. and bad news i need to find a new place to park.
two nights ago, parked nearly in the same spot and my 4runner got hit again!! i walk out to go to work and the mirror is ripped off. at first I'm furious, like don't talk to me I'm about to break my own knuckles I'm clenching my fists so hard furious, I'm sure a few of us have been there. anyway, i calm down and there is a note on the window from a neighbor who saw it happen, she left a license plate number and vehicle description. i cannot thank her enough!
anyway the vehicle description and plate number belongs to someone farther down the street and i find the vehicle and take MANY pictures of the damage on his car and leave a note. it said: Hi, you hit my car last night. please do the right thing and call me as soon as possible.
so this morning i get an officer out to write a report and try and contact this guy. Officer Smith finds him and brings him to my door so we can 'chat'. dude doesn't even remember driving that night, said he took an ambien and doesn't know what happened. WTF! what if the neighbor girl hadn't seen it or gotten his plate number?! id be effed again!
the best part of this is that because he hit me in the same spot as the last guy, and i have this new guys info and admission with a police report, he gets to pay for the damage.
I'm ecstatic! i know insurance and the whole repair process are going to be a pain but at least i have someone taking responsibility for their actions and making things right. yes the guys a moron and probably should go to jail and I'm lucky to have at least one great neighbor but for now i happy to be getting my vehicle fixed. and yes i will be parking somewhere else from now on. possibly in the empty lot off the street.
sorry for the long post.
