Hit and run, or hit and keep working?

walked out of the house yesterday and found the 4Runner had been clipped earlier that morning. It isn't substantial but its still something. the fender, flare, and bumper are all scratched or scuffed. it looks definitely like it was a taller vehicle with some overhang to get on top of the fender, as well as a high tire because of how high up it scuffed.

these guys were working on the street all morning and had trucks in and out of the spot in front of me. i talked to all of them and nobody was claiming responsibility. Also the street is one way and closed off on the other end so I'm about 100% confident that there were not any other trucks coming down the street.

Basically I'm really upset not only the my runner got clipped but also that there is nobody claiming or taking responsibility for it. I have a $1,000 deductible and I'm at this time I'm not able to spend that kind of cash to fix something like this. for now it stays damaged and i work on getting the construction company to take ownership for what I'm confident one of their trucks did.

Had to vent, not a very happy guy right now. when it rains it pours huh?

I took alot of pictures, which I passed on to my insurance company. I also got a police report. However with no witness and no admission of guilt I cant prove anything hopefully Geico can shake them down and get them to cough it up.
 
If that is white paint on the scrape, I would be examining the cement truck down the street to se if it had any gray on it. Maybe already too late if it is gone.
 
Yup, that sucks. If I were you, I'd take KidVermicious' advice, get out the tape measure and go compare heights so that you could, at least, narrow down to offending vehicle. I mean, what do you have to lose? Besides, if the guilty party happens to see you measuring their vehicle, they may just pony up a confession!

Fill out a police report. Call your insurance company. It will be covered.

We had a similar incident in a mall parking lot with our minivan years ago. We had this '96 Ford Winstar van, brand new, made sure I parked away from other cars in the lot, so it wouldn't get any door dings. Went into the mall, came out a few hours later, the whole f'ing front end is smashed to sh't, we got 2 little kids, tired, hungry, and now I'm on the phone with the insurance company, mall security, tow truck,...a total PITA.

Obviously, this was a hit and run. Never did find out who did it. Doesn't matter. You know what? I don't think we had to pay a dime with our insurance company since it we were parked appropriately in a parking lot, a police report filled out, and insurance company called right away. Clearly, it was not our fault, but rather a form of vandalism...albeit with another vehicle.
 
Sorry to hear about the hit and run. I know it sucks, was involved in a BIG one awhile back.

Can't hurt to go out and play detective. Tape measures, lots of pics. Maybe the owner of the company will fess up.

Def. file a PD report and have it all documented for your insurance. Really doesn't seem like something you'd be liable for if parked legally and the right paperwork is filed.

A similar thing happened to me with the grounds crew at an apartment complex I used to live at. *******s.

[MENTION=80593]Snarf[/MENTION] do you have uninsured motorist property damage coverage (UMPD)? If so, a hit and run of this nature would probably be covered under that instead of collision. That's good news for you if you do, because in Ohio, the UM deductible is $250 by statute (according to the internet, don't quote me on it), so your deductible may be $250 instead of $1000.

If it were me, I'd turn it in to my insurance and let them sort it out. Your vehicle was parked and unoccupied, so I strongly doubt it would count against you for filing the claim.

Again, I'm not a legal authority on any of this, but there's some food for thought.
 
Id place money on it that the cement truck did it. The down spout that pours the cement probably swung out and hit the 4runner.

Thanks for all the replies! i appreciate the advice and support.

I filed a police report and had an officer here while the construction crew was still on site. he filed it as a hit and run. ill see if my insurance covers that under UMPD.

i took pictures of the passenger sides of all the trucks on site as well as the ones down the street ( and the one parked two streets away). I forwarded all of this to my insurance company as well as the RA Miller constructions' contact info. when they come back on monday i will find out who their concrete contractor was and pass that along as well. it definitely seems probable that the cement truck swung wide and hit my car. i can tell from the rubber on my bumper that a tire came across the front of my car.

pretty sure there are no cameras on the street but i haven't ruled it out, just have not had the time to look into it yet.

again, thanks all for the advice and wisdom. this community never ceases to amaze. i will be sure to follow up, however this goes.

Nobody hit-and-runs a 4Runner and gets away with it ... I'll hop on the next flight to Ohio. I'll bring the knifes! Where are we meeting? :spy: :AK47: :50cal:
 
you need to find out the name of the company doing the work. call their boss/owner ect untill you get some answers. even if you have to call their bluff, and tell them you have a witness that saw them hit your truck... it doesnt really matter who did it, it matters that someone from that company did it, so its their fault. -id call both the company doing the work, and the company who owns the cement truck -probably two different companies. rattle both their cages. take that "tape measure evidence" and give the correlating company the "my neighbor saw one of your trucks hit my car" line and see if they come clean. typically boss/supervisors and managers done like when their people put their job at risk or the company's name at stake. i have found that good bosses will come out and have a look. and if you can present them with something like the "tape measure" evidence it will be your word and physical evidence vs his slacker employee who is probably not paid enough to give a chit. if you dont get a satisfactory answer start climbing the company ladder, till you get the owner of the company or your truck fixed.
 
My first reaction would be the flatbed too but I don't think the flatbed could have hit your 4R without the trailer hitting it and the trailer doesn't have the height.
After saying that i would definitely look the flat bed over good. The width of it with dual rear tires may have given the trailer clearance. Also it's obvious that the flatbed and trailer were trying to get close to the curb at your expense. The cement truck didn't even try to get to the curb where it is sitting.

Im on the street today taking some measurements and photos. Getting all of "genuine concern" for how my vehicle is from these guys. Right now my money is on the backhoe as the culprit. I believe the scratches are from the stabilizers that go down and up. Im waiting til one stops so I can get some tape measure evidence. And, I just this second saw them back one of their trucks into another of their trucks. Solid crew we have work in here.

My scratches are about 43" up, about where I think the backhoe stabilizers are. Wish me luck.
