Hitch Mounted Tire Carrier Wiggle

Hey all,

So I have a hitch mounted tire carrier that wiggles when I hit bumps and stuff. It's not gonna fall off the truck, but the 1/4" of wiggle I am getting is just enough to make me ask.

Is there any way to stop the wiggle? I may drill two axial holes into the hitch and weld nuts on the outside to thread bolts in to tighten the contact surfaces, but I wanted to see if anyone has done anything different.

I hope you have some success finding a solution. I just pulled off my CBI hitch mount tire carrier due to movement actually. I found I was getting most of the movement from the fold down part; not from the hitch itself; the holes for the hitch pin have ovaled themselves out from all the movement at this point.

from the links that u/ebg18t posted it looks like the first one may work if you are getting movement in both the hitch and the fold-down.

I am using one to stabilize my rear mounted bike rack with good results.

This one I use all the time. No wobble on my bike rack at all and that's with 5 bikes on it.

Those stabilizers are probably the best way to do it, but I was feeling really cheap so I just looped a ratchet strap through my rim and hooked both ends to my tow loop and tightened it down. That solved it for me!
