Holy SH*T! Cops shoot wrong man 16 times...and he's still alive!

Nah, hire ONE good one...such as lawyer of OJ Simpson! Too many lawyers means less in your pocket at the end of the day! This is such an easy case that any lawyer with half a brain can win.

Slow down there, cowboy. I would have whole heartedly agreed with you 6 years ago. That was before right turned wrong and up became down. Things are much different than they were.

Exactly, the fact that "investigators" already cleared the two cops of any wrongdoing shows how screwed up the system is. Although, I'm sure they wouldn't offer the guy $3 mil if they didn't think they'd get F'd sideways in court.

I believe it is a winnable case hands down, but it ain't gonna be a walk in the park....He was probably in an illegal sleeping position or some dumb sh1t.

What stopping home intruders from knocking and yelling, "Police, search warrant" and then entering the house.

I am an ex-cop, no-knock warrants are the exception, not the rule (your state may vary). No-knocks are only issued for "high-risk" warrants. It must be clearly articulated in the warrant why the PD wants a no-knock.

I have had (no-knock) warrants denied, even after a "snitch" said there were guns placed throughout the house and he believed cops would be shot at the door if the "knocked and announced."

Obviously a tragic situation, but getting rid of no knocks would lead to even more tragic situations...

Thanks for serving, but you're wrong here. Officers have a variety of methods at their disposal to avoid getting shot at the door, including body armor, flash bangs, tear gas, serving the warrant at another time/pace, or even just sitting down and starving the bastard out. No-knocks are a clear violation of the guy's rights, and a horrible idea besides.

That's pretty sketchy.

Not in theory. If you're going into the house of a bad guy and you know he has weapons and you know he's willing to take a shot at a cop, you wouldn't wanna knock either.

But in reality, it leads to situations like we're talking about here. I have a lot of respect for guys and girls that are willing to put themselves in harms way for my own safety, but it seems like there's more and more of an us-vs.-them mentality developing in police departments, and it's got to stop. Officers need to remember that they're there to protect everybody, not themselves.

I'd be in favor of a pay raise for 'em all, though. In my experience, officers don't make enough to do the job we're asking them to do.

One Matthew Stewart comes to mind. A guy that grew a little pot for his own consumption, is startled awake by people breaking into his home. He does what any armed homeowner would do, and shoots at the intruders.

The intruders turn out to be cops. One dies, and several are injured. The homeowner is injured too. He is sent to jail, to await trial for killing a cop.

He commits suicide in jail, when it becomes clear he won't stand a chance of defending his actions in court.

Pretty damn careless and stupid IMO, when they could've easily arrested him without incident, while he was arriving for/leaving work. Especially when the police later claimed it was considered a low-risk operation from the start.

I guess that's not as exciting as a no-knock warrant, though.

It also doesn't allow the SWAT team to try out the new toys they received since the last dog killing they were involved in.....

I see what you're saying. There's really no simple answer. I guess I'm just putting myself in that situation. If a mistake gets made, innocent people die. If they make a mistake and someone kicks in my door at 1AM it's going to scare the hell out of me and I'm thinking of protecting my family #1. Probably not going to take a little time-out to listen to what the people are yelling at me over the alarm, dogs barking, wife screaming, etc. It just creates a pretty chaotic, confusing/ $hitty situation for a homeowner.

WTF is no knock warrant?

When cops have a search/arrest warrant signed from a judge (for a felony) and there is great cause for bodily harm to cops or suspect (suicide)...cops don't need to "knock and announce" who they are at the door for 10 seconds....(10seconds not official, just making a point)

They can, with a valid warrant, storm in and arrest the guy before he loads his gun and waits for the cops to enter.

Ok....

Ummm here are a few flaws in your theory.

1) body armor that that cops wear don't stop rifle bullets...swat/ert will stop some...people have heads-when shot it has bad consequences...even with a helmet.

2) swat/ert teams carry the array of weapons that you are describing. believe it or not....many areas do not have a team that can be readily available.

3). Wait it out.....???umm that is why there is a warrant. See the guy, in most cases, had court (for a felony) and he is waiting it out...how long do we wait for this guy. Will he call us when he is ready??

"Starve him out"....while a officers are "starving people" your city would be in chaos. PD's are only so big and to have 15-20 cops "starving suspects out".....well hopefully no more than 4-5 warrants ever in a city at a time...

You are saying that it is a violation of rights?? Umm you can say you don't think warrants (no-knock) are legal-that's your opinion.

The facts are: a judge signs them, that makes them legal--whether or not they need to knock and announce, is also up to the judge. so...you are wrong.

I am guessing you want cops to shoot guns out suspects hands too....

I don't know the specifics of this case... but generally, trying to arrest someone while he arrives at work would be very foolish (both endangering others and humiliated the suspect.)

Best to keep bystanders out of it. A traffic stop easily turns deadly when a suspects flees and eventually crashes.

The point of the no-knock is the the perp doesn't have time to plan anything.

Again the original article and from what you outlined regarding this case...terrible things happen, accidents happen, and at times it can cost lives.

But we all know if the police tried to pull this guy over and he fled and crashed with a bus full of nuns....everyone would say, "why did the cops try to pull him over, the cops know where his house is."

Don't be stupid. The fact is, no knock warrants are abused by officers and it leads to innocent deaths. If you're ok with innocents dying so that you can be lazy, I guess that's your call.

And for the record, I would like to repeat that I have a lot of respect for officers and military that put themselves in harms way for my own safety. But I've got no truck with anybody who thinks it's ok to put innocents in imminent danger to make their own job easier. GTFO with that.
