Homelink, hours wasted, can't get it to work? 2014 4runner, 2007 door opener

I guess that's the next thing to try. I only have one 1-button remote (opens both doors). I just ordered a 3-button model from Amazon. Hopefully, I can get that to work with a dedicated button for each door, then use that to reprogram my 4Runner.

So, this finally worked. I ordered an OEM multi-button remote for my garage door opener from Amazon. Cost me about $25 and took about 2 minutes to "program" a unique button for each door. Then I reset the Homelink buttons in my 4Runner (held buttons 1 and 3 at the same time) and went through the setup process again (press and hold remote button and Homelink button in vehicle at the same time). Worked on the first try. The whole process took about 10 minutes.

We had the same problem in my wife's MDX, so I went through the same process with her car and it's working properly, also. Eureka!

I have a craftsman garage door opener which is made by Chamberlain. The procedures on either owners manual did not work for me. I had to do some crazy procedure found online which was different from the owners manual.

Perhaps there's TOO MUCH signal when you put it up close! RF is a strange thing, if a transmitter is too close and very strong, it will create noise on the receiver, overloading it and not allowing it to get the proper signal.

You say you can open it from way down the road? My thoughts are that its got a fresh battery and is a bit stronger than the older style openers, which is overloading the homelink's receiver.

Here's another issue that I've run into, its exactly the opposite of the above. The battery was weak, although still enough to get a "burst" of code out to open the garage door, but if I held it down longer than a second or two, it would stop sending the signal, although the light continued to shine on the remote. I put a new battery in and it worked.

Finally, and here's one that nobody else mentioned, does your remote do a burst signal or continuous signal when you hold the button? I couldn't tell from Chamberlain's site, but it could be that you may have to press the button several times to get it to program the homelink device.

In any case, glad you got it programmed in the end!

Mine finally worked when I used the keypad remote. Spent a day trying with the normal remote. Then used the keypad with the first step, then the learn button on the motor unit the second step. I have a genie garage door opener. Wow was this a PITA.

The Air Force just moved me to AZ. Got the keys this morning.

I have 2016, and the opener is a Chamberlain LiftMaster w/ aftermarket clicker/remote.
