Hood/engine insulation stuff, need it ?

The crappy insulation material held onto the hood by the little clips round finally disintegrated and was tossed in the trash bin . Does it need to be replaced? I have looked online and can't find anything like it. I guess I can order through the dealer if it is needed. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Nope. Unless your engine catches on fire, you're okay without it. I took mine off a while ago and filled the crevasses in the hood with great stuff foam.

took mine off over a year ago no issues if that helps you any , also removed the plastic engine cover and insulation around it

Over time the direct heat may cause paint damage/discoloration/dulling, even on the outside/top of the hood.

You can buy sheets of insulation that is either pre glued or you use your own.

It's like a foam material with aluminum backing. You cut it to size typically.

I dont have the insulation under my hood. Been that way for years and everything is fine. And consider this, the hood on a vehicle probably gets hotter from direct sunlight in the summer than it does from the engine transferring heat to it.

Isn't the pad primarily for sound deadening of the engine from the cabin? Most of the heat gets directed down and under the vehicle while in motion until the engine is turned off.

I'm pretty sure the new 5th gens don't even come with hood insulation. So if toyota doesn't feel it's necessary you should be fine.

Thanks for the replies. I think I am going to go without it, there is so much else I want to do with this truck I will pick my battles. Right now I am battling issues with my Sirus/JBL setup and trying to get enough nerve to change it out.

Glad this thread popped up; mine is dangling like an old...insulation piece. Going to rip it off. Probably more of a hazard anyways if it falls far enough to burn on the engine or something.
