hood hot spots

alright so i have a problem that has been getting worse and worse over time. i have these white spots that are getting bigger on my hood, i think they are from heat and it burning the paint away basically. i dont know if its because i have the sport hood or they are all like this but it has to heat shielding right above the motor. i figure others are having this problem at some point to some extent but mine is getting bad. wondering if anyone knows how to fix it. was thinking about some ducking heat tape like stuff to put there but not real sure what to do. any input would be great.

I see you're in Oklahoma, nice and hot. How long have you owned it? Have you ever waxed it? Looks to me like paint hasn't been waxed ever.. I have an 03 Sport with in Black and don't have this problem.

My 4runner spent most of its life in Arizona, my hood is lot worst. Waxing makes it less noticable.


On my 96 4runner I didn't have the hood insulation and didn't have that problem but on my 2000 that has the insulation it has this problem.

I've seen this quite often down in the south where I am. It mostly has to do with the sun and maybe having a bad layer sprayed to begin with. Being a sport hood has nothing to do with it. The only fix for it is a repaint of course and the longer you wait, the worse it'll get. I'll glady take it off your hands

It looks like the clear coat is coming off to me. That's caused by UV light. Waxing your vehicle helps to protect the paint.

At this point it's too late though. All you can really do is wax it to keep it at it's current state or have it repainted to restore it to like new.

glad the white on my 4runner is a single stage (from my research, altho i may be wrong) My gf's dark carolla has a clear coat issue just like that black 4runner.... You have to just rock the faded look or re paint it

it always get waxed and it has gotten a lot worse. it used to be a really small spot. it used to be in Maine and came to Oklahoma maybe 6-8 years but the past 2 it got bad. even doing a real good full wax it didnt help i guess. im starting to care less about what happens to it and how it looks in general but i still hate those spots.

think spraying another clear on it would slow it more? it going to be waxed again soon just because so maybe that will help.

I wonder if some rubbing compound and serious elbow grease can make it look any better? that stuff is amazing!

I used it to take out my brush scratches that i got from everything my brush guard didn't protect (which was pretty much everything) but anyway it took them out pretty good
My dads Clear coat was getting discolored on his GMC and the RC and some clay bar fixed that,
then one more time a friend of mine backed into her garage door leaving a nice long scratch of house paint all along her back door RC got that out too, i dont think it would hurt trying?

junk your sport hood and send it too me, i have a friend who owns a body shop and a metal recycling business on the side and he can clean that up with a new coat of paint and depose of my old hood...

HAHA your funny... i like the scoop too much to drop it

but it is in the flaking off stage so thats bad, before i wax it i will do something to it for sure, think i will do a good buff all over

im not sure if the hood was, it was majorly rearended when we got it so the back was but not sure if it all was. i use the turtle ice wax with clay bar.
