To each his own to for me the 12 p's stand true," Piss Poor Preparation, Promotes Piss Poor Performance; Piss Poor Performance, Promotes Pain".

thought I would reload the magazines I keep in my office (retired) while reading this thread. M59 and 12 gauge

To celebrate my self quarantine I went to a Dominican Barber Shop this Sunday and had my hair cut by a women from El Salvador. It is one of the best cuts I've had in years. She knew how to cut my hair long unlike my former Russian barber who only knew how to do corporate and Jersey Shore haircuts.

To follow up on my response from a few days ago, I am still living life and trusting God. But knowing more today, I understand the reactions better.

Even if Coronavirus is no worse than influenza from a symptom and impact standpoint, the immunity level in our population seems to be extremely low. As a result, what happens if no measures are taken is that millions get sick and thousands die. Our healthcare infrastructure isn’t prepared for the volumes of people who might need care. And our economic infrastructure isn’t prepared for the absence of a third of the workforce or more. Nevermind the heartache resulting from the deaths of so many that could be avoided if we just use wisdom for a few weeks.

Like many, I can’t stand it when the media blow things out of proportion just to be alarmist. This happens daily, hourly, and it’s despicable. But I think this is different. I do know this, at least from what I’ve learned: if we really could pull off a nearly total physical separation, this thing will die off in three weeks or thereabouts. So I’m parking my butt at home as much as I can. I know not to have unrealistic expectations, but I’ll do my part.

God bless y’all.

If you are waiting until now to prep, you are way behind.

Guns, ammo, food, water, misc supplies should be on hand all of the time.

Hopefully this experience opens a bunch of eyes and minds and people realize that it is up to YOU to survive. The government is not going to protect or save you if shit goes sideways.

You would think with all the hurricanes and floods in Ms, people would be more "prepared". Nope.

The TP hoarders aren’t totally wrong. As more schools and businesses are closing for two or more weeks, and if the news of transmission in Europe keeps getting worse, you can be sure the closings will be longer than two weeks. Now most people have enough food and supplies to last for several weeks, but who normally has a months worth of TP on hand?

TP is pretty important to people’s quality of life. Gotta have a lot to be happy!

After all, wasn’t there a comedian (Maybe George Carlin) who said there are five essentials to life, and in this order of importance:
Breathing, pooping, water, food, sex.

Stay happy and safe.

Bidet. Install these on your toilets. Much better than TP.

As a long time senior emergency manager, I have a slightly different take without all the hype and all the false information (like high doses of vitamin C).

Everybody needs to be prepared to take care of themselves for a few weeks. That means food, meds and other supplies, so you don't need to go nuts and buy a lifetime supply of TP at the first sign of someone sneezing.

That said, you'll want some water (although the water/electricity/gas etc. won't be affected by the pandemic) as there may be periodic outages caused by other things (storms etc) but once you have your basic supplies, you just need to rotate and buy your normal quantities of everything.

Don't forget supplies for your pets.

You'll also want to keep your car topped off. Even though you might not be driving as much and the gas stations will remain open, you do want to limit your interaction with others. I make it a habit of filling my tank when it reaches half full all the time, so I normally have plenty of gas. Maybe you need to bring supplies to a friend or relative who is shut in.

Wash your hands, don't shake hands, exercise social distancing (3 feet away from others in public), cover your cough and you'll be fine.

Don't forget the ammo.

Bottom line - don't panic but don't take this lightly either. There are plenty of 20/30/40 year olds on ventilators for this disease so it doesn't just affect the older population.

With proper preparation, we can keep from overwhelming the medical system - that's what happened in China and what is happening today in Italy (where they are taking triage to extremes because they can't cope)

You don't want to get this (you have a 90+% chance of survival) but you don't want to get it and pass it on inadvertently to a more vulnerable person.

I'm happy to answer any questions - either here or via PM.

We have a subject matter expert at our disposal, and frankly everyone else's opinion should come in second.

Thanks for this informed post. I'd like to add that the social distancing and quarantine is to keep the hospitals from getting overwhelmed.

Picture a bell curve. With normal interactions, it is a pointy spike shape where the top of the spike is much higher than the capacity of hospitals. With social distancing the curve is wider and flattens out to the point that the peak infection is below hospitals' capacity.

As mentioned above, if hospitals' capacity is exceeded then they start doing triage and some who need a ventilator to live will not have one available. Plus doctors and nurses would be getting bombarded at that point. So staying away from folks for a couple of weeks is really helping out the medical professionals, mostly, while potentially saving a few lives.

Admittedly it is a small chance that any individual will need a ventilator; but as an example no one would want to own a vehicle that had a 3% chance of exploding every time it's started.

For our part we're not going out much, and have some extra canned goods, pasta etc.

COVID-19 in perspective

See how many kids die EVERYDAY from bad water and we don’t do anything about it. See how many Chinese people die EVERYDAY from bad air.

COVID-19 is a fiasco created by the irresponsible media circus. It has wiped out billions of dollars of wealth and countless people have lost their jobs because of them.

Yes, but none of that can effectively be used to influence the outcome of the next US election, so it doesn't matter.
:peep:

OK, tinfoil hat mode off. It does raise an interesting question, if preventing spread of disease and death is so important, why are all those other factors mentioned above seemingly forgotten about? Why is there comparatively little to no desire to slow/stop death from those situations (regular flu, bad water, bad air) as there is from this new virus? Is it simply because fear is a fad - we're only afraid of the latest and greatest diseases and lose interest in last year's maladies?

Well played China. Successfully crashed the world economies with the common cold. :hiding:

"Did the Chinese government attempt to cover up the embarrassment of its socialized medicine or fabricate a deadly outbreak to panic the world? Has our scientific arrogance erroneously blamed this on an innocuous common cold, possibly endemic in much of the world, or have we been maliciously misled by the Chinese-controlled WHO? Was it to cover the embarrassment or advance the fabrication? Did China orchestrate the media hype, or was it the normal Trump-hate of fake news? Did the Chinese start a fire sale, or were they well positioned by happenstance? "

Something to drink about.

I wasn't really worried until Saturday. Couldn't find any meat for dinner. Everything is shut down. Now they are talking about not being allowed to leave your house and Marshall Law taking affect.

I thought I was doing pretty good investing in the down market, then the Feds cut the rates to almost nothing yesterday. I felt sick to my stomach and didn't even want to look at the market today. Sure enough, everyone panicked and the market dumped.

We are set on TP and Bourbon. Now I am afraid we won't have enough food with 2 kids home from school all day, and potentially the wife any myself. I've been stocking Ammo for years while it's cheap. Everyone thought I was crazy. Who's crazy now?
