With 120,000 miles and never having anything done to the brakes, I was planning to take it in this week to have them checked. Turning into the parking garage at work yesterday morning I heard a loud sound like I ran over a couple loose manhole covers, but there weren't any. I parked and went to work and forgot about it, but paid attention with the windows down when leaving. A horrible grinding sound seemed to be coming from the front drivers side wheel, that got worse when turning and braking. I decided not to drive home and had it towed (on a flatbed) to the closest Toyota place, hoping I wouldn't be referring to them later as a stealer.
Turns out a wheel bearing was bad and cost close to $500 to repair. Glad it didn't happen too far out in the middle of nowhere. Has this ever happened to anybody else on the forum?
It obviously needed a brake job which we had them do also, which was a surprisingly low $360 for all four wheels. Not bad for 120,000 miles.
Also had the tranny fluid and 4 wheel drive fluids changed.
Total damage $1260. Picking it up tomorrow, hopefully everything works.
