How critical isthe botton shield?

Took off the bottom shield to change oil and haven't put it back. I am suden;ly traveling and don't have time to get back under. Is it a safe assumption that the shield is really for off road and a couple thousand highway miles will not self destruct anything...

Yeah, it's mainly for offroading and protecting the undercarriage, as long as you're only traveling on roads you'll be OK. Don't run over any dead animals or anything

I took mine off as well, it was thoroughly rusted and missing multiple bolts. I will be replacing all of the skids with BudBuilt when I do my lift and other mods.
But to answer your question, there shouldn't be any issues as long as you plan on staying out of the rocks haha :tongue1:

don't get me wrong, I like the fact that Toyota offers the undercarriage protection on the 4r..on the flip side, I'd say for 90 plus % of the people driving them it's probably unnecessary, okay maybe 85%..not a lot of folks dragging these rigs across rocks..for reference my off-rig doesn't have anything but a transfer case skid. I wheel it quite a bit and have rarely found a need for anything else...
