How do I know if its a 3rd or 4th Gen? Also some other questions.
2000 4 Runner SR5, shes got 310,000Km's. It leaks oil, alot worse when out on the gravel shaking. It seems to collect in the rock guard under the oil pan and stuff but I cant tell exactly where from. Ive had some of the gaskets changed on the top end. The general suspicion is that its a rear main seal. What do you guys think? i could provide pictures etc. it doesnt seem to lose much oil if at all until its on a along drive or out in the bush, last time we came back in to town from being out a couple days I had forgotten to bring oil and guess what, a total loss of power, i checked the oil and it was drained almost completely. We made it back to town thank god and refilled the oil, now its been weeks and the level stick is still up there. it seems to drop a bit of oil when parked, or maybe driving obviously. It was my gf's dads truck for years and after he died we took it and have been running it the past couple years, its had this leak for more than a few years but seems to be progressively getting worse. 3.4L 3400 4 Cam 24, Engine Family:XTYT03.4DBP SFI, HO2S(2), TWC. Im looking to either do the Rear Main Seal or start looking into a new Long Block. What do you guys think? Also im on Vancouver Island in Victoria right now so if anyone can suggest the best place for parts or Toyota help let me know.
Also yesterday the check engine light came on so I stopped and checked all of my fluid levels and stuff and everything checked out, what could be going wrong or could it have to do with the possible rear main issue?
