Hey guys, I'm in the process of doing some little mods to my car. How do I take off the white bar with the toyota symbol in it? Not just the toyota emblem itself but the whole thing, the part that has the key slot and the handle to open the trunk? I'd like to plasti-dip it black

Also, how can I take off the roof rack on my car? I'd like to paint it black

I've got a White 2004 4wd Sport V8

Please let me know guys, I'll be updating you with pictures

I have a tare down manual on these trucks that should give pretty detailed instructions on this. Its at the house I'll get to it in about an hour or so if somebody hasn't shared the info yet ill post up what i got when i get home. for the roof rack the front and rear (knuckle looking) plastic covers that are silver pop off and reveal bolts. and i would imagine if you open the back hatch and pull the plastic panel off the inside of the truck you'll probably reveal the either a.) bolts b.) screws or c.) plastic clips that hold that back trim piece on your speaking of.

edit: were you standing on your hood for that last pic lol dont mess up that pretty white paint!!

Thanks man I appreciate the help whenever you get a chance. Your truck looks great. Almost exactly what I'm going for but a little different in some places, just personal preferences.

And haha no i had my knees on the roof, still not too smart I know. Getting the baby cleaned and waxed here pretty soon

For the Roof Rack

The are bolts are under those large plastic covers at each end. (2 per end)

BE CAREFUL WHEN PRYING THEM UP AS THEY HAVE A TENDENCY TO SNAP.

Theres a total of 8 bolts. Good Luck

Hey guys I've dedicated today to working on my car and I'm still curious exactly how to take the roof rack off. Pictures or detailed instructions would really help me out, I'll be updating with pictures as the day goes on

To get the end caps off the roof rack use a slim flat blade screwdriver or knife to pry them lose start at the bottom. There are 4 slots that have knobs from the cover on them that slot on to the base. Just be Careful they are easy to break which I ended up doing myself but a little 3M body moulding tape fixed it up for me though they have been on since last May no probs.

There is black molding beneath the caps, do I use the screwdriver underneath that or the actual cap between the two? I'm updating with pictures in a second

Under the actual cap, the black moulding is beneath the actual foot mount and won't come off til you unbolt it.

UPDATE: The last few days I did my rims, back emblem, and permanently spray painted the plastic bumper beneath the trunk door.

Now for that stupid roof rack, I stick the screwdriver in-between the black molding and the cap in the picture? I keep hearing things about people breaking things and I'd like to keep everything not broken..

Feel free to let me know what you think of my truck, I'd love to hear some insight from you guys

Looks good!

All you can really do is what other members have said, and do it slowly and easily.

As someone who broke several tabs, I can tell you the caps don't come off easily, even with broken tabs. I sold my rack to a member here (one cap had 4 broken tabs, the others all had at least 2 broken) and her caps never fell off, or at least she never mentioned it to and we continued to correspond for several months after her install.

roof rack

There's a sweet spot on them cpl inch's back then slip your screwdriver n make sure its a thin one as all above have stated very brittle & I think there is a write up n the accessories on roof racks where I saw how to do mine Luck !

:bravo: It looks really good. Really like strip below the trunk door. You should do the front V8 & Toyota emblem, imo. Love when cars & trucks get stormtroopered out.

Why not just paint it on the car? Get some painters tape and plastic sheet.

Its almost impossible not to break/chip the plastic covers.

Javelin, I'm in Newport beach also. Can you show me some trails or places to go around the area? As well as some stuff on my truck?

I have plastic sheet and painters tape so that might be tomorrows project

i vote door handles next.

I was thinking about it Trevloc, after the roof rack and the tint I might see if I like it. Maybe somebody could photoshop it and see what it would look like?
