I love these cars, but when I drove it, they sure dont seem to stable. I mean feels like you can jerk the steering wheel and it seems like this vehicle would flip. Maybe its because I'm used to driving vehicles closer to the ground, but I'm not sure. So whats the rollover ratings for these vehicles? Has anyone ever flipped one before?

I hardly ever hear of 4runners tipping over, maybe during an offroad adventure, but never in an accident.

It's easy to roll anything over in the right conditions and speed always helps, their are several body shops and a scrap yard and I see SUV's of all makes with crushed roofs no 4Runners yet, Ford Expeditions crumple like a soda can

I know of more guys who rolled cars over then any truck or SUV and it was pretty much their fault.
If your coming from driving a car then an SUV with a higher center of gravity will effect you more, but you eventually get use to the changes it's not like around every corner are over turned SUV or high wind warnings to stay home if you drive an SUV

:iagree: Anything with a high center of gravitiy like our 4runners are easy to flip in the right conditions. I believe the 4runner has the highest ground clearence of any SUV also.

SUVs are not as bad as their reputation. They are not much worse than minivans, and safer than pickups.
Last I heard, the vehicle with the highest rollover fatality rate was the Corvette, one of the most stable vehicles you can buy. It's all in how you drive.
My 4Runner feels like it's cornering on rails. Well, compared to my old Explorer anyway. 4th gens are pretty good from what I've heard.

Corvette!!!! never came close to fipping mine you must be screaming around a corner or driving like a complete ass to flip a Vette

SUV have been hyped up by the news media, living here in the northeast when it snows thats all you see are cars on the side of the road, their could be 3 cars but the camera will only focus in on the SUV, it's funny cause I see more cars with 19in or 20in rims spining their tires like crazy, sitting of the side of the road or just that their so low compared to the amount of snow on the ground their snow plowing with the front of the car but if a guy in an SUV comes around a corner at speeds you would usually drive in when it's dry and flips the truck over thats all they see.

It seems like every time is snows the local news has pics of some SUVs off the side of the Northway or Thruway. And in most cases, I bet it is someone who didn't have any idea how to drive it. I blame the "you can go anywhere in this thing" TV commercials, and the idiots who believe them. They don't learn until too late that 4WD will let you go alot faster than you can stop.

You drive a vehicle to it's and yours abilities. A 4runner is far more likely to roll-over then a Camry. And a Camry is far easier to roll-over then a Corvette. So don't drive your 4runner like you would a Camry or Corvette.
In normal driving conditions I don't fee unsafe or like the 4runner is going to flop...and I drive a lot (40k+ miles a year). I don't drive like a granny...nor do I drive like a maniac.

That stance, the lower and wider one, that the 4th gen has compared to earlier versions is a direct result of wanting to lower the roll over effect.
I had a 1st gen and a 2nd gen, and YOU COULD not take those things around a corner anywhere near as fast as I can on my 4th gen. Granted, I have a sport with a functioning XREAS (awesome fyi) but the entire stance of the 4th gen is to lower the risk.

It's funny, and I know I'm not the only one either, but my 4Runner feels a lot more stable after I lifted it. It's just funny to think that increasing center of gravity by raising the height of the vehicle (yes I know, stiffer suspension) and it still feels more stable around corners than stock. I will say it is not as stable at high speeds. I have to correct the steering a little more, naturally.
