How hard is this piece of the console to replace?

Can anyone tell me how hard this piece is to replace? Any idea what the part would cost? Thanks.

It's pretty simple. I think there are 6 or 7 screws total holding it all together, most of the parts easily pull out. Cost wise, it may be cheaper to buy one of the applique kits (think woodgrain, carbon fiber, etc.), but I would understand if you did not want that look.

Check with any online parts dealer (partznet, etc) or your local junk yard for replacement cost -- I suspect it won't be cheap.

Thanks for the links guys. Anyone know where I can find a schematic that will tell me the part number? I see some schematics on the partznet but I'm not sure what to call that piece.

I think I found it under Instrument Panel->Instrument Panel Components->Center Panel w/ CD Changer->4WD. There's no schematic but that sounds right I guess.

If your talking about the silver part that looks messed up in your photo (lower left) it looks like it is part number 5540535340 and runs about $380.

I second that about the re finishing but I'm not sure about the plastidip but that could be cool. Just depends on what your going for.

Toyota parts outlet has it for $250-$300 plus 2.99 shipping depending on year and trim level. Keep in mind that the one for the newer JBL systems are different than the one for the standard sound system.

Looked at the instructions and it makes me shudder to see them prying on plastic with a metal screwdriver.
