Well, let's see. Here goes.

4th Gen 2005 V8 4x4.

1. How many miles before the timing belt is a threat to break after being done at a dealer?

2. What is the difficulty level to replace for an experienced tech?

3. What size tire can be put on it without lifting? I plan on leveling it out later.

4. Can the remote be programmed without a scan tool, if so how?

5. Anything special about replacing the JBL head unit with a pioneer? I have the one out of my 3rd Gen.

Look in your owners manual. It's based on miles or age (which ever comes first).

What is the difficulty level to replace for an experienced tech?

I've never done a timing belt on a 4runner. I have the V6 with a timing chain. But I have done many timing belts on several other vehicles. Last one I did was on my 98 Nissan Pathfinder.

The hardest part of doing a timing belt is getting to it. You have to remove a lot just to get to the belt. The actual part of replacing the belt isn't that difficult. Just be make sure the belt is lined up correctly. Also make sure the tensioner is put on correctly and at the right pressure.

Anything special about replacing the JBL head unit with a pioneer? I have the one out of my 3rd Gen.

If you want to replace the head unit, then get one that's designed as a replacement for your vehicle. I can't say if the unit from the 3rd gen will fit or not..but I'd very very surprised if it did. Wiring is going to be different...plus does the 3rd gen have external amps. If you really want to replace the head unit..the go to Crutchfield: Car Stereo, Speakers, Home Theater, LED LCD TV, Cameras and buy one there. It'll include all the hardware and a wiring kit for a direct replacement.
