How much should I pay for NICE 4th gen?

I am looking at buying a 4wd 4th gen and I have found the following

2008 Limited 4wd
Shadow Mica with gray leather
95,000 miles
ceramic tint all windows
basket roof rack
no accidents
underneath looks great
no tears or crack in interior
Pioneer double din with backup camera
kicker replacement sub with JBL system
2 owner and garage kept

This 4runner is super nice but I am having a hard time justifying $18k for a 2008 vehicle. Can I get some opinions please? Thanks in advance

I just bought a 2003 4runner with just under 60,000 miles. The same sort of thing garage kept, one owner, and cloth interior. Sport edition 4x4. I paid 12,500 out the door including tt&l.

I would say keep looking but if that is the one then go for it.

Thank you Sam. It seems they are high priced in the South Carolina area. Very popular here as well. Most dont even show photos online before it is sold. I am definitely having a hard time paying that much but looking at comparables it really is not out of the question. Just wanted some other opinions like yours :) Thanks much buddy!

Yep I found mine before it was on the market here in TX. You just have to be ready to pounce on them when you find the "one". No problem anytime.

Looks like a nice one, but 18k seems quite high for an '08 even with that low of miles. Is it a V8 or 6? Sold by dealer or individual? Check the blue book value.
 
Honestly, that price doesn’t surprise me. Especially with it being a Limited and under 100k miles. Anything 4wd with under 100k and in the Limited trim seems to go for close to $20k here in San Antonio. They retain their value so much.
For example, there is an ‘08 V6 2wd 2 owners, 84k miles and the paint on the roof is even fading and starting to peel and they still want $14k from the dealer and it’s only an SR5, not even Limited.
 
It is a manager's personal car at a Toyota dealer. I believe NADA is around 17k on it. I think I would rather have the sport hood anyway, lol. And I probably dont wanna spend that much to take it off-road and be so worried about everything. Thanks for the replies all!
 
It’s worth what someone is willing to pay for it… but the Toyota tax is a bit strong on this one. Seller obviously knows what he has, and it might be on the high side, but If everything maintenance is done and everything works, it might be worth the premium especially with low miles, leather, limited trim.

I spent a few grand and some time to get things on mine refreshed… suspension, spark plugs, ALL fluids, brakes (sized caliper), serpentine belt, really anything that it needed to make it trail worthy on a basic level… considering its owned by someone who works at a dealer, these guys usually have the resources and connections to make it nice, well maintained, and cheap for themselves. All my friends who work at dealers have cars are to a degree over-maintained when compared to a regular joe. Not that its a bad thing...

Alternately, my favorite type of Toyota seller is one who looks at KBB as gospel, doesn’t know about Toyota tax, and aren’t really car people at the core. There are deals to be had, one just needs to exercise a high level of patience with cash in hand ready to make a deal.

Personally if I was going to spend 18k on a 2008 Limited 4Runner, id immediately start looking at a GX or old LX... here is a 1997 that's worth every penny of their 20k asking

95k, timing belt time. That could subtract about 3k from the asking price if it isnt done.

Personally I was thinking it might be a pretty good deal considering the LT suspension and other modifications.

I know mods generally don’t increase the sale price, but sometimes when the plants align you find the right buyer, both parties get what they want.

My entire strategy when selling cars and trucks has to do with posting before I even want to really sell it. I’ll sell it if I can get my price, otherwise I just turn it down

I know virtually nothing about the parts on it so do not know if it is worth 15,900 being a 2004 with 158k miles. But all parts are new and installed by the dealer selling it. I really like the way it looks but dont wanna make a horrible decision either. Like the parts look cool but are cheap crap parts or something lol.

Also this will be a daily driver so not sure if a lift and those tires are what I "need" but man I love the way it looks :)

The description doesn’t tell you much… I would ask better questions, maintenance history, aftermarket parts, shocks (can’t tell by picture)…

Personally when I look at something like this I have a hard time trying to decide what the seller is really about… Dudes got an ARB bumper with factory running boards. I seriously doubt this guy was actually into off-roading. Looks more like a mall-crawler build.

It makes me question “Fresh expedition build Using the very best parts” as it looks like he was more into aesthetics than performance. A lift using cheap shocks, vs 5100s, vs 6112 or better make a huge difference sometimes. Can’t really identify who makes the gold-ish shocks, could be a yellow bilstein, but last time I used a part like that it was for a “shit car” build… basically a do it as cheap as possible with Chinese parts and trash it on the track… literally garbage parts. If the spring rates were not upgraded its going to nose dive a bit or just feel a little off with the weight of the bumper.

It pays to know what ur looking at considering it looks like a "flip"… IMO based on your last sentence, I’d take that unmodified limited for 18k before I bought that only because of the unknown parts and labor factor and mileage.

If you don’t need an off-road truck, buy something else because ur paying a passive premium for something you don’t want plan on using.

I know aftermarket parts arent supposed to add a lot to a price but I added this stuff up (what I could tell by names) and it is around 5k of stuff not including installation. So would I pay around $10,900 for this clean of a 2004 4wd? Possibly yes, lol. But I may be looking for excuses to get it or justifying something that really is not a good deal after all. I know you guys have the experience to help. Thanks
