How much would you pay for this '08?

Hey guys. So...I purchased this 4Runner about 3 months ago. Came into some financial problems recently due to medical reasons. However, long story short, I'd love to keep this truck but I can't. I'm curious how much y'all would pay for it. I've looked up all the book values and everything but I want to get YOUR input. Because I'm trying to private sell it.

2008 4Runner SR5, 2wd, V6, 85,380 miles, leather, sunroof, dual power seats, aftermarket stereo with nav, aftermarket wheels, brand new tires that have 300 miles on them, leveling kit, bull bar, LED fog lights, aftermarket exhaust. Recently replaced spark plugs, all maintenance done on it, maybe one or two dings on the entire body, paint is in immaculate condition, garage kept.

Just MY opinion, but I wouldn't even make an offer. Require 4WD and too pimped out for me.
Regardless, I would value this at $15K.

I'd offer 10-12k depending on how much my budget is. It looks like its in great condition but 2wd's are a dime a dozen and while the low miles are nice they don't factor in that much on a Toyota.

X2....red with the black accents = a nice looking truck. 2WD would be a deal breaker for me, and I'd take 100 off my offer price, just cuz that shiny stuff has to be cleaned off the tires!

Based on this guy selling his 2wd 03 for 18.5, I’d say 28k.

But realistically, yeah I’d say 10-12k would be a great price for you. With those mods you’re going to be looking for a specific buyer, and most of those will probably want a 4wd. If they’re ok with a 2wd, they’re going to want to spend a lot less. And there’s a lot of 2wd out there, but not mecessarily red. Spoiler a plus, too.

IMO 10-12 is too low. 15K seems like a good mid-range for it. Prob won't get more than that, you could end up getting a little less. Toyota tax doesn't apply nearly as much to 2wd models.

The thing you have to remember is that generally, the following items DON'T increase market value of a non-rare vehicle:
-difference between an 8 and 10 out of 10 in condition of paint etc.
-new tires
-aftermarket wheels
-accessories, lights, bull bar etc.
-aftermarket exhaust

The vehicle looks great, paint looks great. That's good for appeal to buyers. Low miles actually positively effect value and increases buyer appeal. Newer tires actually help a little bit too, not much though.

Everything else will either be a neutral thing, or even a detractor to some buyers. I personally will not buy a vehicle that has been plastidipped, painted on, or has random lights added to it. Yes, I do all of those things to my vehicle, I don't think they're bad. I just don't want a vehicle that someone ELSE did them on.

My suggestion would be to take that vehicle as completely back to stock as possible. Sell those tires/wheels for a grand. put some takeoffs with decent tires from a stock Sr5 back on there. Take off the bull bar and the lights, sell them for 50 or 100 bucks. MOST IMPORTANTLY sand down those taillights and get them looking stock again. Not criticizing your taste, I've totally blacked out lights before. But it tells a potential buyer "hey, a 16 yr old had this car, and maybe did weird things with it". You don't want that.

None of these things are going to make that car sell for thousands more, but it will make a sale happen slightly faster, and the sale itself will probably be a bit simpler. Think clean OEM plus, not modded. Also don't just do craigslist. do autotrader and pay a bit for the premium ad. Ive sold several cars and that always helps.

IMO a lot of that price range depends on the underbody matching the shiny exterior. If it does, and its taken back to stock, I'd now say 10-12K. Offering 8K for it is a joke though. Just because something isn't 4wd doesn't mean its not worth much. Its obviously in good condition.

The 4wd is a bigger factor than you realize. With a vehicle that age, will scare off a lot of 2wd folks, they have alot more newer options out there. Now if it were 4 wd, that puts it in a whole different universe. You appeal to the off road/younger market. I bet if it were 4wd, it would not stay on the market very long. Around here(NC) if one pops up 4wd you had better jump on it very quick because it will not be available long. My friend looked a long time for one, every call was too late. He ended up buying new....

That being said, I feel your pain man, I have a 2 wd. I do have some buyer remorse just considering resale. It suits me and my wife great and was priced right, so that is why I went 2wd.

Its too Texas-ey for me, honestly. It's all show and no go. The advise of "take all the aftermarket junk off" is the best advise if you are trying to appeal to a wider market.

Absolutely beautiful color, and the black accents really set it off better than chrome would inmo, but as most have said, stock appearance will get you a better, faster resale. Not to beat a dead horse, but also mentioned was the 2WD thing. For me, this would be a complete deal breaker here in MA where we get snow. In TX, it’s probably not as big of a deal unless someone is an off roader. My previous Eddie Bauer Explorer was a V8, but 2WD, and when I tried to sell, everyone raved about the condition (it coincidentally came from TX), but as soon as they found out it wasn’t 4WD, that was it.

i was in the market 4 months ago and never noticed a lot of difference between v8 and v6, price wise, and i never knew 2wd ones existed. i got a white v6 4x4 with 129k miles and very minimal rust underneath (a main priority in my search) for $7300. Everything works on the vehicle and theres nothing wrong with the body/esthetics. i wouldnt pay over 6 grand more for one with 40k less miles...for an 11 year old truck. id be interested in around 12k though, perhaps, not more.

Love the paint, and the fact that it has had such great care taken of it(obvious from pics). However the tinted taillights are a turn off for me. The 06+ tail lights look so good in their original form that there isn't really any reason to cover that up. I also don't like the bullbar. My suggestion on that is to sell the bull bar, and take the leds pods off...however I would keep them and possibly include with sale. Most guys like pods but they want to either install themselves or move to different area on the truck. As far as value goes, you have extremely low miles, but you have a V6 and 2WD. Speaking for myself these are the least desirable options. I had to have a V8 after driving one, and the 4x4 was a necessity as well.

Point being in all this...is that you have a very small market to sell to, i would say you can expect to get at least 12-14k but I would list at 17 and see what happens. You can always lower the price later on.

Great looking ride either way! I definitely like the look you went for and it looks very sharp overall!

17k is a major stretch even for a 4wd in similar condition with major tasteful mods. (Like multi thousand mods that other off-roaders would be interested in paying extra to have already done. Lockers, long travel, regearing, tons of armor etc). Have you looked at for sale 4runners recently?

Everything you said about the condition of the vehicle is dead on. This vehicle is in AMAZING shape. But those prices are crazy talk. The lowest end of your “at least” price is the highest end of KBB, in EXCELLENT condition.

Over listing a price is the single best way to get buyers to ignore your listing. There are very few people who would even click on an ad for this vehicle at 17K. However, if you happen to know of more than a few individuals who would, I might have a few for sale ads to send their way real quick....
